Victory is sometimes more stunning than sweet.

An exclusive sneak peek at next week’s Teen Mom 2 takes us inside the moment that Leah Messer‘s ex-husband Corey Simms learns he has won the hard-fought battle for primary custody of twins Aleeah and Aliannah, 6.

“You got virtually everything you asked for,” lawyer Rusty Webb informs Simms, who is rendered practically speechless and overcome by emotion.

As he pulls himself together, Simms tells Webb that his new girlfriend Miranda and he “understood that we wouldn’t really have a fun time – this is the hard time. But this is what’s going to build them to be a mature adult that’s going to succeed in life and want to go places. I want them to talk about college and what they want to do, that’s what what I want. So this is why I’m glad this went their way.”

He adds, “It’s amazing. We’ve fought for so long. I mean, it’s hard to hold back the emotions. I really didn’t expect it, you know? But for the girls’ sake, I’m tickled pink that it happened.”

And the shadows of events that unfolded between Messer and her two oldest daughters (she also has a 3-year-old daughter, Adalynn, with ex-husband Jeremy Calvert) on Monday’s episode still loom over Simms’ meeting with Webb.

On Monday, the long commute to Messer and Simms’ daughters’ new school created friction for all, as Aleeah told her mom during one early morning commute: “I don’t trust you. Take me back home. You’re always worrying about everything else except for going to pick us up and giving us lunch. I’m cold and I don’t have nothing to eat. You never get us us up for breakfast. Daddy and Miranda does.”

In next week’s episode, Webb tells Simms that he will retain custody over the girls Monday through Thursday while Messer, who has struggled with prescription pill addiction and entered rehab for anxiety, will have Friday through Sunday. “We’re hoping that if she has one day to take them to school, she’ll get them to school on time the one day a week that she has them,” says Webb.
