Did Josh Duggar Have a Paid Ashley Madison Account?

With his family and fans still reeling from his child molestation scandal, Josh Duggar found himself in the center of controversy all over again on Wednesday.

In mid-May, Duggar apologized for his “wrongdoing” – a 2006 police report revealed that he molested five underage girls as a teen, and his sisters Jill, 24, and Jessa, 22, subsequently stepped forward as two of the victims – but now, Gawker reports that the 27-year-old appears to have had active accounts on Ashley Madison, a website created to facilitate cheating on your spouse.

Ashley Madison’s database was hacked last month, and on Tuesday hackers released the names, email addresses and phone numbers for some of the website’s 37 million members – including information that links Duggar to the site, according to Gawker.

The news and gossip blog says “someone using a credit card belonging to a Joshua J. Duggar, with a billing address that matches the home in Fayetteville, Arkansas owned by his grandmother Mary … paid a total of $986.76 for two different monthly Ashley Madison subscriptions.”

The subscriptions are said to have been active from February 2013 until May 2015 – a time period during which Duggar not only was married to his wife, Anna, but also served as the executive director of the Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying group in Washington, D.C., that seeks “to champion marriage and family as the foundation of civilization, the seedbed of virtue, and the wellspring of society.”

According to Gawker, when Duggar started the second account in July 2014 – which was linked to his then-home in Oxon Hill, Maryland – he paid an initial fee of $250 that appears to have gone toward the purchase of an “affair guarantee,” which Ashley Madison says “increase[s] your chances of having an affair from possibly to definitely or your money back.”

Duggar’s family has been struggling to move on after the cancellation of their hit TLC show 19 Kids and Counting in the wake of his initial scandal. And now, a source who has worked with the family says the latest allegations will likely cement the network’s decision to end their relationship with the Duggars.

“It was pretty improbable that there were going to be any specials on any of the Duggars anyway,” the source tells PEOPLE. “But now, with this, there’s virtually no chance. It’s basically just over now.”

A rep for the Duggars did not immediately respond to calls for comment.
