The star harnessed his love of cooking as a struggling actor in N.Y.C. “My brother had this term called ‘mung,’ ” says Bacon, 65. “For anything that you put in a pan, fry up and eat.” While his frugal days are behind him, the actor, who hosts his podcast Six Degrees, can “still make some version of mung” that might even impress wife Kyra Sedgwick and their two adult kids: “If you’ve got a can of tuna and some capers, some noodles and some oil and herbs, you can make something amazing.”

Like so many, the Broadway star, 42, started cooking more during the early days of the pandemic. “It was almost like my 6 o’clock curtain,” he says. “I felt like I had an audience, and I would get my little applause when I did well. It was a way that I could stay connected to something creative.” The actor-singer perfected a beet poke bowl and relishes his meal prep as “time away.” “Nobody can need me for an hour,” says the father of two, who’s set to release his new album When a Crooner Dies this month. “I find it really restorative."
