Experience

Lizz Schumer has over a decade of experience in the media industry as a writer, reporter, and editor and joined PEOPLE as a senior editor in the books vertical in 2024.

Before joining PEOPLE, Lizz worked as a senior editor at Good Housekeeping magazine, where she covered books, podcasts, pets, and culture, and edited longform features and first-person essays. She founded the GH Feel-Good Book Club in 2021 and GH+ Reads in 2023. She previously worked as a staff writer for Good Housekeeping, Woman's Day, and Prevention magazines and her writing has appeared in The New York Times, SELF, HuffPost, VinePair, Salon, and many others.

Prior to moving to New York City in 2018, Lizz worked as a staff reporter and then became editor-in-chief of The Hamburg Sun and The Springville Journal, wrote for The Buffalo News and Buffalo Spree Magazine and was a visiting professor in the journalism department at Canisius College.

Lizz has published two books, "Buffalo Steel" and "Biography of a Body." She also teaches journalism courses at New York University and serves as a writing coach with the New York Writing Room.

Education

Lizz received her Master of Fine Arts in creative nonfiction from Goddard College and her B.A. in journalism and mass communication from St. Bonaventure University.
