Kevin Bacon Says His Children ‘Make Great Dishes’ Even Though He Never Taught Them to Cook (Exclusive)

The actor tells PEOPLE cooking has been at the heart of many family moments

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have passed their love of cooking on to their kids.

In this week's issue of PEOPLE, the Footloose actor, 65, talks about time spent with his wife in the kitchen. The longtime couple — parents to daughter Sosie, 31, and  Travis, 34 — have shared their love of cooking with their kids, but never in the technical sense.

"We really switch off. We love to cook and we love to eat. Cooking and eating together is something that we've always done as a family," Bacon tells PEOPLE.

"Both of my kids are now... We never gave them lessons. We never sat down and said, "Okay, this is how you cook." But just in the course of life, they've ended up making great, great dishes, and they both really enjoy it," the proud dad shares.

Bacon last chatted with PEOPLE in September, where he talked about the launch of his charitable podcast Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon. Bacon revealed taking to the name "Macon" after watching 1988's The Accidental Tourist, in which the main character (played by William Hurt) has that moniker.

"When my son was going to be born, I had seen this movie called The Accidental Tourist and read the book, and there was this character in it named Macon," he recalled. "I said to Kyra, 'That's such a great name, Macon. How about Macon for our son's name?' She's like, 'Yeah, I like that name.'"

But once Sedgwick, 58, thought about it, she told her husband, "'Wait a second. Macon Bacon? Are you out of your mind?' "

Over the years, Bacon and The Closer actress have been candid about parenthood and the impact it has had on their lives.

"My motherhood really defines me," Sedgwick said during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. "I mean I've been an actor forever and you know I have my own career, my own life and I always have, but 'Mom' is my title. It's the thing I think about in the morning, it's the thing I think about when I go to sleep."
