Kel Mitchell Recalls Dan Schneider 'Yelling' at Him During 'Big Argument' on All That Set

Mitchell claimed the pair would "bump heads a little bit" during their time working at Nickelodeon together

Dan Schneider has faced his fair share of criticism over the last few months, and now All That's Kel Mitchell is joining the chorus.

During an appearance on Keke Palmer's podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, Mitchell, 45, recalled an experience he had with Schneider — a writer on All That who went on to create other Nickelodeon shows including The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh and iCarly, and has been the subject of complaints from many of the child actors he worked with.

“The vibe of the show started to change a little bit. Brian Robbins started to do Varsity Blues and all these different movies and the production team started to blow up, so they left," Mitchell said of how the All That set was changing. "And they left us with the head writer, Dan Schneider. So he's writing, and me and him kind of bump heads a little bit."

"I remember me and Dan had a big argument on set. He was like, 'Let's go over here to this room right here, in this closet.' He closed the door and he just took off, you know, just yelling all this wild stuff."

Palmer asked Mitchell how old he was when this happened, to which Mitchell said he was 18 or 19 years old.

"Being an adult at this point, I had a decision to make, you know what I mean? I was just like, okay, either we [are] going to fight or either I'm going to leave. And so that's what I did. I left the situation.”

In light of the release of the Quiet on Set docuseries, Kenan Thompson — Mitchell's longtime costar who starred in Kenan & Kel and All That with him — spoke out about the accusations against Schneider on the Tamron Hall Show in March as he said he "never witnessed" the kind of toxic behavior that's been alleged.

“Because all these things happened after I left, basically, and Dan wasn't really on Kenan & Kel like that,” Thompson, 46, said. “I mean, he got a ‘created by’ credit but it was a different showrunner, so our worlds weren't overly overlapping like that outside of All That necessarily."

The Saturday Night Live star continued, “I think it's a good thing that the doc is out and is putting things on display that need to be — stories that need to be told for accountability sake, but it's definitely tough to watch because I have fond memories of that place. And I have fond memories of my costars and stuff like that, so, to hear that they've gone through terrible things like that, it's just, it's really tough."

In response to the docuseries, Schneider, 58, admitted "regret" for some of his "past behaviors," which he called "embarrassing."

“It was wrong,” he said in a YouTube video with former iCarly star BooG!e. “It was wrong that I ever put anybody in that position. It was the wrong thing to do. I’d never do it today. I’m embarrassed that I did it then. I apologize to anybody that I ever put in that situation."
