Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Talks Romance Between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Says ‘We’re Glad She’s Here’

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's relationship has the seal of approval from the NFL star's coach, Andy Reid.

Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs head coach, was asked about his star tight end's romance with the superstar singer during an appearance on Outkick's The Five Spot this week, and Reid, 65, showed his support for Kelce, 34, and Swift, 33.

"I knew her from Philadelphia; her dad was a big NFL fan, so I had met her when she was real young, and her dad," Reid explained before jokingly taking credit for orchestrating the romance between Swift and Kelce. "I joked about setting Kelce up, and, you know, I'm just saying!" Reid said, laughing with the show's host.

Swift grew up near Reading, Penn. and has confirmed she's a Philadelphia Eagles fan after writing a lyric about an Eagles t-shirt in her song "Gold Rush."

But lately her rooting loyalties have shifted to the Chiefs amid her romance with Kelce, and Reid added, "She's a good girl, she's into it, we're glad she's here."

Reid first joked about setting up Kelce and Swift after the singer attended her first Chiefs game on Sept. 24.

"I set them up," he told reporters following the Chiefs 41-10 blowout win over the Chicago Bears as NFL fans watched Swift cheer for Kelce alongside the athlete's mother, Donna Kelce.

Chiefs president Mark Donovan recently spoke to PEOPLE at MetLife Stadium before the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets, explaining that Kelce is prepared to handle Swift's level of fame while staying focused as the Chiefs attempt to repeat their 2023 Super Bowl victory this NFL season.

Donovan said his team isn't worried about the attention becoming a distraction for the team, even with the meteoric rise in fame for Kelce and the Chiefs.

"Travis is a smart team player," said Donovan of the Chiefs tight end. "He can handle it and has been very professional."

And a source recently told PEOPLE that Kelce and Swift are giving their romance "a real try," despite both of their schedules being "actually insane."

"She's the biggest star in the world and it's no secret dating an athlete is very tough, but they've been texting and talking on the phone between the pockets of time they get to spend with each other," they say.

"There's not some looming date like, 'Oh, she's going back on tour' and 'his football schedule is getting crazy.' They'll figure it out. He's said it himself, he knows what he signed up for with this attention, but they've spent time under the radar too. They're giving things a real try," the source says.
