Billboard Coming To Bensalem After Location Change

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —A billboard is coming to the township after an agreement was reached to relocate it from a controversial location.

The Bensalem Township Council has unanimously approved a settlement stipulation and agreement among the council and zoning hearing board with Premier Media LLC.

The council had previously been briefed on the matter in executive session and had approved a rezoning of a piece of land involved in the settlement. The public was given a quick history about Premier Media, who had applied to put a billboard at the intersection of Street Road and Hulmeville Road, at the May 20 council meeting.

However, that location was considered controversial by township officials.

The zoning hearing board had previously denied Premier Media's requests for variances, leading to an appeal.

However, the township and Premier Media collaborated to find an alternative location, avoiding potential litigation.

The new location, on Long Street Road near the Pennsylvania Turnpike slip ramp, will generate revenue for the township, estimated to be more than $1.1 million during the lease term.

The township will also have control over the content of the sign, prohibiting alcohol, tobacco, and political advertising.

Additionally, Premier Media will be responsible for maintenance and installation costs, as well as planting additional buffering and screening to improve the view of the emergency services training facility.
