Melrose Fire Department 5K Set For June 16

The Melrose Fire Department is proud to announce their annual 5K at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 16th . A portion of this year’s proceeds will go to the Melrose Fire Department Boston University EMS Scholarship Fund. This will allow a Melrose, MA graduating Senior to attend Boston University’s Emergency Medical Technician Program. Boston University is one of the nation’s top ranked universities has been training Emergency Medical Technicians for over 20 years.

Registration is $30 per person in advance and $35 on race day. The first 300 to register will receive a free T-shirt. Participants can walk, run, push a stroller, or just participate by registering for a chance to enter the raffle. Everyone who registers for the race will automatically be entered to win. This year’s prizes include tickets to the Red Sox, gift certificates to various restaurants in Melrose, tickets to see Zac Brown Band at Fenway, and Mt. Hood Golf passes – just to name a few.

This is truly a fun event that the entire family can enjoy – not just for Dads on Father’s Day. This year, there will be kid’s activities for all ages – which includes a Firefighter Zone obstacle course, touch-a-fire truck (with an antique fire truck). The Massachusetts State Police will also conduct a fly over prior to the start of the race (weather pending).

There is also a “biggest team” contest. The winning team will receive the coveted fire hose flag. Made of retired firehose that’s has expired or been burned through from use at fire scenes. Once again this year the Melrose Firefighters 5K, have partnered with Idle Hands Brewery to host the “Father’s Day Beer Garden.” Anyone over the age of 21 can purchase a cold one post- race. As an added bonus, the largest team to participate in the race will each receive a token to be used at the Garden as well.
