Visit and tour Bellevue House at your own pace. Exhibits, panels, and the Parks Canada App offer the chance to learn more about this historic site.

A self guided tour of the site includes the following locations:

  • Visitor Centre
  • Historic Bellevue House
  • Ornamental gardens and heritage apple orchard
  • Period kitchen garden

This guided tour provides you with an introduction to the history of Bellevue House to enhance your visit. Uncover connections between the picturesque Italianate villa and what it symbolized in the life of Canada’s first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald.

  • English, 11:15 am and 3:15 pm; French, 10:15 am and 2:15 pm
  • Spring and Fall - Thursday through Monday
  • July and August - Daily
  • Up to 30 participants

Keeping Up Appearances


Experience what it was like to live in a time where social status literally defined what doors you could open. Class segregation was an inherent part of life in the 1840s. Challenge yourself to understand what life would have been like if you were a woman, a maid-of-all-work or an upper-class gentleman.

Unpacking Macdonald


Macdonald was a lifelong politician who had great influence in shaping Canada into the country it is today. There is a lot to unpack about his complex legacy.

This tour is for people looking to examine topics like social class structures, racism, and sexism in Victorian Canada while looking closer at some of Macdonald’s political decisions. Bring an open mind and open heart and join the discussion in this safe space.
