Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s complete relationship timeline
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have been together since 2007 – but they’ve certainly had their fair share of ups and downs over the years.
The former *NSYNC member and the “7th Heaven” actress dated for four years before briefly splitting up in 2011. However, they rekindled their love by getting engaged that same year, tied the knot in 2012 and later welcomed their two children, Silas and Phineas.
In more recent years, Timberlake has been accused of infidelity rumors (which he has vehemently denied) and has made headlines for his alleged drinking problems. The “Cry Me a River” singer was arrested in Sag Harbor, NY, in June 2024 on DWI-related charges after a night out of partying with friends.

2007: Romance rumors swirl
Timberlake and Biel sparked romance rumors in January 2007 when they were spotted snowboarding together with friends in Park City, Utah. At the time, Timberlake had recently split from actress Cameron Diaz while Biel was coming out of a relationship with MLB star Derek Jeter.
The “Sinner” actress later told GQ that they met at a “birthday party that Justin was throwing for a friend of his.” For his part, Timberlake admitted that there “was nothing starry” about the way they got together.
“It was very un-Hollywood-esque, in fact. We met and got talking,” he told reporters during a press conference in 2012, per Us Weekly. “Afterwards, I asked my friend if I could call her and ask her out. My friend called Jessica and Jessica said ‘yes,’ and so I called her.”
Timberlake said he purposely chose to ask Biel out the “old fashioned way” with a phone call.
“There is a thing called chivalry. The way I see it, if you’re asking a girl out on a date, it’s only right to do it in a way that she can hear your voice,” he explained at the time. “I had to be pretty persistent in order to get her to say ‘yes.’ But I have a fair amount of tenacity and if I want something I stick to it. And in the end she agreed.”
December 2008: Officially dating
In 2008, Biel appeared on the cover of British GQ’s December issue, in which she confirmed her romance with Timberlake for the first time in the accompanying interview.
The actress admitted to the outlet that she was keeping her relationship more private, calling the romance her “one sparkly present” that she doesn’t “want to open in front of strangers.”
“It’s the one part of my life that is my own and not for anyone else,” she explained.
2009: Shutting down split speculation
Two years into the relationship, fans began to wonder whether Biel and Timberlake had broken up, as they appeared to be seen less frequently together in public.
However, a source close to the couple told People in September 2009 that the only time they spend “apart” is when “they’re working.”
A source later told Page Six, “They’ve spent the last few days vacationing together in Santa Barbara. Things have been rocky in the last few months, but they are working it out.”
Earlier that same year, they attended the Met Gala together in May and moved to New York City.
March 2011: Confirming a breakup
In March 2011, reps confirmed that Timberlake and Biel broke up after dating for four years.
The news broke shortly after a source told Page Six that Biel was “telling friends they had an argument,” and she subsequently “flew home to LA” alone.
“Addressing the media speculation regarding Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake’s relationship, we are confirming that they mutually have decided to part ways,” reps for the couple said in a statement at the time. “The two remain friends and continue to hold the highest level of love and respect for each other.”
August – November 2011: Getting back together
The Grammy winner and the Emmy winner’s split didn’t last long, however, as they were spotted back together and looking cozy in Toronto in August 2011.
Biel then played coy on a possible reconnection in an interview with Elle magazine in November 2011.
“A girl doesn’t kiss and tell,” she teased.
Page Six later reported that Timberlake and Biel were packing on the PDA over lunch in Miami.
December 2011: Popping the question
Timberlake and Biel got engaged in December 2011. The “Sexy Back” singer proposed to his now-wife during a romantic trip to Montana.
“We were in Montana on a piece of property that we owned at the time. We had snowboarded all day. It was in the middle of the winter. Waist-high snow. We were [in] head-to-toe snowboarding outfits — hats, gloves, everything,” Biel shared on “The Late Late Show” in May 2022.
Timberlake proceeded to take Biel to their property to oversee the construction progress, “and all of a sudden, he gets down onto his knees and just sinks into the snow.”
Biel called the proposal the “most lovely, surprising [and] hilarious” moment of her life.
She later told InStyle in August 2012 that she had “no say whatsoever” in the engagement ring, gushing that Timberlake had “better taste” than she did with the choices.
October 19, 2012: Saying ‘I do’
Timberlake and Biel got married in a private southern Italian wedding on Oct. 19, 2012.
“It was a really special evening,” Timberlake told People following the dreamy nuptials, with Biel adding, “It was a total fantasy experience.”
Biel admitted that she felt “terribly emotional” before walking down the aisle. She said the emotions continued flowing when Timberlake surprised his bride by singing “an original piece [he] wrote specifically for the evening and for her” as she walked to meet him.
The “New Year’s Eve” actress stood out by wearing a custom petal pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown.
The couple invited several of their famous friends –– including Jimmy Fallon, Andy Samberg, Timbaland and Beverley Mitchell – to watch them say “I do.”
January 2015: Announcing their pregnancy
The “Mirrors” singer confirmed that Biel was pregnant with their first child together in a since-deleted Instagram post shared on Jan. 31, 2015.
The post featured an adorable picture of Timberlake planting a kiss on Biel’s bare bump.
“Thank you EVERYONE for the Bday wishes! This year, I’m getting the GREATEST GIFT EVER. CAN’T WAIT. #BoyOrGirl #YouNeverKnow #WeDontEvenKnow #WeAreTakingBets,” he captioned the snap.
The couple confirmed they welcomed son Silas Randall Timberlake in April 2015.
November 23, 2019: Timberlake seen holding hands with a co-star
The couple’s relationship faced major speculation in 2019 after The UK Sun published photos of the actor sitting on a patio and holding hands with “Palmer” co-star Alisha Wainwright during a night out in NYC.
“They were smiling and laughing. At one stage, he grabbed her hand and rested it on his knee,” an eyewitness told the outlet at the time. “She then gently started stroking his leg. Then he clutched her hand with both of his and was playing with her hands.”
Just one day after the bombshell photos were published, a rep for Wainwright clarified the situation by saying, “There is no validity to this speculation. They are working on a project together.”
Timberlake later wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post that he would ”address recent rumors” that were “hurting the people” he loves.
“A few weeks ago, I displayed a strong lapse in judgement — but let me be clear — nothing happened between me and my co-star,” he claimed. “I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son.”
He added, “I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that.”
Despite the speculation, Biel and Timberlake continued putting on a united front in public.
January 2021: Secretly welcoming baby No. 2
Timberlake revealed that Biel gave birth to their second child, a son named Phineas, during a virtual appearance on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Jan. 17, 2021.
“He’s awesome and so cute. Nobody’s sleeping. But we’re thrilled. We’re thrilled and couldn’t be happier. Very grateful,” he shared.
Five months later, Biel explained that her “COVID baby” was not “supposed to be a secret.” She just happened to be pregnant while quarantining with her family in Montana.
With a new member added to the family, Biel and Timberlake listed their Hollywood Hills home for $35 million in October 2021 as they relocated to Montana full time.
October 2022: Celebrating 10 years of marriage with a vow renewal
Both Biel and Timberlake shared sweet posts of each other to mark their 10th wedding anniversary in October 2022.
“10 years ain’t enough! You make me a better husband and father every day! I love you so much you beautiful human! Run it back!” Timberlake captioned a series of snaps.
Biel also posted pictures of her with her hubby and wrote, “Being married to you is the adventure of a lifetime! Run it back, baby. RUN IT BACK. I love you.”
The “Candy” actress revealed that she and Timberlake renewed their vows at the same place they tied the knot 10 years prior.
“From our wedding vow renewal this summer — in Italy where it all went down,” she captioned an Instagram Story of her in a white ruffled dress and her husband in a beige suit.
Biel even sported a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture to honor her original gown.
“It was very intimate. It was very small, a couple of our friends, and we literally barely put this thing together. We almost canceled it. We thought, ‘This is silly, are we going to feel goofy doing this?’ And actually it was so moving. I felt like, ‘Wow, we’re going to keep doing this. Look at us!’ It felt really nice,” she said on the “Today” show in November 2022.
October 2023: Vacationing in Mexico after Britney Spears bombshells
Timberlake’s ex-girlfriend Britney Spears wrote about their tumultuous three-year relationship in her tell-all memoir, “The Woman in Me,” released on Oct. 17, 2023.
In the book, Spears revealed that she got pregnant with Timberlake’s baby, but she had an abortion, because he “didn’t want to be a father.” She even went into detail about how she was “sobbing” throughout the “excruciating” procedure.
The “Toxic” singer also accused Timberlake of cheating on her “a couple of times,” though she didn’t specify when or with whom.
Shortly after the book dropped, both Timberlake and Biel restricted their social media profiles and took their kids on a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
They have not directly addressed the claims, but a source told the Daily Mail that Timberlake was reportedly “not happy” with the book.
“Justin has not reached out to Britney at all about any of this, and he is not going to because there is nothing he can say to her,” the insider spilled.
Despite the wild claims, an insider told People that Timberlake and Biel were in “such a great place.”
June 18, 2024: Timberlake arrested on DWI-related charges
Timberlake was pulled over and subsequently arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and two other traffic violations after police officers –– who were “stationed outside where he was having dinner” –– saw him running a stop sign and swerving into the wrong lane on June 18, 2024.
Sources told Page Six that the “It’s Gonna Be Me” singer was “with a bunch of friends” at the American Hotel before he attempted to leave in his vehicle right after midnight.
A police officer –– who “was so young that he didn’t even know” who the singer was –– pulled him over and performed a field sobriety test on him. Timberlake refused to take a breathalyzer test.
“His friends were telling the police, ‘Let him go, let him go,’” one insider told us.
In the criminal complaint obtained by Page Six, the officer claimed that Timberlake had “bloodshot” and “glassy” eyes and a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” on his breath.
The report noted that Timberlake claimed he only had “one martini” before hopping in his vehicle. However, the arresting officer alleged that Timberlake “was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
The dad of two was then photographed leaving the police station in handcuffs. His mugshot was also released.
Meanwhile, Biel was photographed filming her show “The Better Sister” just hours before the incident and the following day in Manhattan.
Reps for Timberlake and Biel have not responded to Page Six’s requests for comment.
