Kate Middleton always wins when it comes to Wimbledon fashion.
As the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) — having taken over from Queen Elizabeth in 2016 — the princess is a regular spectator at the annual tennis tournament and traditionally hands out the trophy to the men’s final winner.
She’s attended the championships every year since her wedding to Prince William in 2011 — with the exception of 2013, when she was pregnant with Prince George, and 2020, when the COVID pandemic canceled the event for the first time since WWII.
While Middleton’s known to rock her tennis whites at Wimbledon, her style has evolved since the early days of her marriage, with the mom of three now choosing longer, full skirts along with separates and colorful patterns — like the polka-dotted Alessandra Rich frock she wore for her first appearance at the 2022 event or 2023’s mint green Balmain blazer.
Here, we take a look at all of the Princess of Wales’ Wimbledon looks through the years.
2011: Temperley London
The newly married princess made her first Wimbledon appearance as a member of the royal family in June 2011, wearing a tiered — and very tennis-inspired — white dress by Temperley London.
While it’s rare that Middleton goes sleeveless, she chose the brand’s “Moraiah” style to watch Andy Murray play Richard Gasquet.
The dress featured tennis skirt-style pleating and overlapping petals at the shoulders and back, a fitting choice for her royal Wimbledon debut.
She carried a tan snakeskin-print clutch for the event — and a brown coat in case of any British weather changes.
2012: Alexander McQueen
The Princess of Wales made two appearances at the 2012 Wimbledon championships, with the royal first joining Prince William for the men’s quarter-final match in the same knit sailor-style Alexander McQueen dress she wore on the couples’ 2011 tour of Canada.
The cream sweater dress featured navy stripes at the waist and cuffs, along with a jaunty tie neck — perfect for a sporty day out. She accessorized with diamond-and-sapphire earrings and a navy quilted clutch by Jaeger.
2012: Joseph
A few weeks later, Middleton brought her sister, Pippa, along for the 2012 men’s singles final to watch Roger Federer defeat Andy Murray.
The royal again chose to recycle an outfit from her North American tour in 2011, selecting a simple sleeveless ivory dress from Joseph layered beneath a textured cream jacket she first wore for the 2011 Epsom Derby.
Paying tribute to a symbol in her family crest, Middleton accessorized with a gold acorn pendant from KristinM London.
2014: Zimmermann
The Princess of Wales made her Wimbledon comeback in 2014, after her pregnancy with Prince George prevented her from attending the 2013 event — and she once again turned to a repeat dress from a royal tour.
Her white eyelet “Roamer” style from Zimmermann was originally worn on a trip to Australia earlier in 2014, with the short-sleeved style featuring pretty latticework detail along the hem, waistline and shoulders.
The royal added a punch of color with her accessories, carrying a fan-shaped red-and-tan wicker clutch by Anya Hindmarch and a red pashmina to watch the men’s singles quarter-final match.
2014: Jonathan Saunders
A few days later that same year, she finally debuted a color (and pattern!) at Wimbledon.
Wearing a green-and-blue geometric dress by Jonathan Saunders, the royal cheered on Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the men’s singles final.
Middleton originally wore the tie-waist, short-sleeved design to the Solomon Islands in 2012 as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour. She kept it simple in terms of accessories, choosing a tan L.K. Bennett clutch, her silver Cartier watch and green Kiki McDonough gemstone earrings.
2015: L.K. Bennett
Middleton chose a new, extra-bright red L.K. Bennett dress to attend the men’s quarterfinals in 2015.
The short-sleeved style with a full skirt proved to be an elegant look for her sixth Wimbledon appearance, and the princess paired it with a fun leopard-print clutch by Diane von Furstenberg, her favorite Cartier watch and gold “Lolita” earrings by Mirabelle.
2016: Roksanda
The Princess of Wales chose a sunny yellow shift to attend her first Wimbledon match of 2016.
Wearing the Roksanda dress she sported on her 2014 tour of Australia, Middleton met with players, staff and other attendees — including Venus and Serena Williams’ mother, Oracene Price, while Serena played Elena Vesnina in that day’s match.
She paired her dress with beige heels from Rupert Sanderson, her Cartier watch and a stunning pair of baroque pearl earrings from Soru.
2016: Alexander McQueen
A few days later, Middleton attended the men’s final with Prince William, wearing an Alexander McQueen dress with a very quirky print.
The brand’s “Obsessions Talisman” short-sleeved dress included depictions of lipsticks, skulls, and butterflies — a big departure from the royal’s usual tame prints and solids.
She added dangling gold charm earrings from Scottish brand Brora, her trusty Cartier watch and folding Ray-Ban “Wayfarer” sunglasses.
2017: Dolce & Gabbana
The princess brought out a fun new look (and a shorter haircut) for her first official Wimbledon visit as royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 2017.
Attending the opening round of the men’s singles championship, Middleton wore a white square-necked Dolce & Gabbana dress with bold black polka dots.
She added black block-heeled sandals from Office and a white Victoria Beckham tote to her breezy look, cheering on her beloved Andy Murray in the match.
2017: Catherine Walker
Another new, summery outfit came later in the 2017 championships, when Middleton debuted a short-sleeved white dress by Catherine Walker with a garden-inspired print.
Featuring large poppies surrounded by wildflowers on the skirt, her dress had an extra-special accent pinned to it; Middleton added a purple-and-green ribbon which may only be worn by members of the AELTC. As its new patron, the royal was entitled to start wearing the pin.
2018: Jenny Packham
The Princess of Wales joined her sister-in-law Meghan Markle for their first joint public appearance together to watch Serena Williams in the 2018 ladies’ finals at Wimbledon.
Middleton chose a custom look by Jenny Packham for the occasion — and went quite literal with the theme, as her white dress featured a tennis ball-inspired print and ruffled detail at the hip and shoulder.
She paired it with her go-to Cartier watch and baroque pearl drop earrings by In2Design for her girls’ day out.
2018: Dolce & Gabbana
For her second 2018 Wimbledon appearance, Middleton wore a bright yellow Dolce & Gabbana dress to watch the men’s finals.
The flutter-sleeved, slim-fitting frock was a cheerful choice for the princess to watch Novak Djokovic play Kevin Anderson, and she added her AELTC ribbon, Cartier watch and a necklace and earrings from Asprey to complete the look.
2019: Suzannah
It was back to tennis whites for the royal’s first Wimbledon visit of 2019, and Middleton chose a retro-style look by Susannah for the occasion.
Full of 1940s charm, her “Flippy Wiggle” dress was an elegant choice to watch day two of the championships.
She accented the midi-length, button-front dress with a black bow belt and straw bag, both by Alexander McQueen, and further accessorized with black Gianvito Rossi pumps and Catherine Zoraida fern hoop earrings.
2019: Alexander McQueen
Another fashion repeat entered the royal box at Wimbledon in 2019, when Middleton wore the green Alexander McQueen dress she debuted during a 2016 visit to Canada.
She was joined by her sister, Pippa, and the Duchess of Sussex for the ladies’ finals, and the three made quite a glamorous trio.
The Princess of Wales’ short-sleeved, tie-neck dress had gold buttons marching down the front, and she accessorized it with her diamond Asprey hoops and AELTC ribbon.
2019: Emilia Wickstead
Middleton went out with a bang for her final Wimbledon visit in 2019, choosing a gorgeous Emilia Wickstead dress in Cinderella blue for the men’s finals.
The princess was all smiles as she handed the men’s singles trophy to Novak Djokovic, wearing a full-skirted frock with twisted details at the shoulders.
She repeated her In2Design pearl earrings and added her AELTC ribbon and a pair of tan ankle-strap heels by Aldo for the big day, which included the longest Wimbledon men’s final in history.
2021: Alessandra Rich and Smythe
It was a welcome return to the court for Middleton after the championships were canceled in 2020, and it appears the royal was eager to get back out there, as she arrived to the tournament earlier than usual.
Instead of her usual white dress, the royal chose a navy polka-dotted midi skirt by Alessandra Rich for her day out at Wimbledon, adding an old favorite Smythe blazer and a white tee.
She also wore a floral face mask, white pumps by Jimmy Choo and a matching bag by Mulberry, further accessorizing with Simone Rocha pearl drop earrings, a double-strand gold necklace by Spells of Love and a Daniella Draper pendant.
2021: Emilia Wickstead
For the 2021 ladies’ finals, Middleton chose a cheerful green dress by one of her go-to designers, Emilia Wickstead.
The cap-sleeved, full-skirted dress was a slightly altered version of the brand’s “Denver” style, and the princess repeated her Jimmy Choo pumps and Mulberry bag for her second Wimbledon appearance of the year.
Adding a gold and aquamarine bangle from Halcyon Days and sparkling Kiki McDonough earrings, Middleton cheered as she handed the ladies’ singles trophy — known as the Venus Rosewater Dish — to Australian Ashleigh Barty.
2021: Beulah
The Princess of Wales debuted a lovely new pink look for her final visit to Wimbledon in 2021, joining Prince Edward, Duke of Kent — who was honored after he stepped down as president of the AELTC after 52 years — for the men’s finals.
Middleton chose a blush-hued “Ahana” dress by Beulah London for the event, accessorizing with tan Aldo heels, her AELTC ribbon and Mappin & Webb “Empress” earrings as she joined the duke for a special presentation.
2022: Alessandra Rich
The Princess of Wales brought back a dress she wore during the Platinum Jubilee to attend a men’s quarter-final match in 2022, wearing a polka-dotted style by Alessandra Rich.
The bright blue dress with white dots featured a coordinating belt and pleated front, along with Princess Diana-esque puffed sleeves.
Middleton pinned her Wimbledon ribbon to the dress and added her go-to In2Design pearl drops to join Prince William and her parents for a fun day of tennis action.
2022: Roksanda
On July 9, the royal returned to the tennis court for the ladies’ singles final, wearing another royal tour repeat. Middleton chose the bright yellow Roksanda dress she sported on the Cambridges’ 2022 Caribbean tour to watch the match between Elena Rybakin and Ons Jabeur — and she kept the sunny vibes going with a floppy straw hat by L.K. Bennett.
The cheerful midi dress featured pleated details at the bust and a large flounce on the left shoulder — so she wore her Wimbledon ribbon on the opposite side, unlike at the 2018 championships, when she went without the pin.
She added white Gianvito Rossi pumps and a pair of citrine drop earrings from her favorite jeweler, Kiki McDonough, for her day out at Wimbledon.
2022: Alessandra Rich
The final royal appearance at Wimbledon 2022 delivered an extra-special moment: Kate Middleton and Prince William brought Prince George to his first Wimbledon match.
The family coordinated in navy blue to watch Novak Djokovic defeat Nick Kyrgios in the men’s singles final, and the duchess brought out a new dress for the thrilling occasion.
She chose yet another blue polka-dot style by Alessandra Rich — a peplum look that was similar to the yellow dress she wore from the designer while touring the Caribbean earlier in 2022.
The short-sleeved silk style featured a large bow at the neckline, button detail and a midi-length hem.
She wore chic Bulgari sunglasses and added two-toned heels by Alessandra Rich, along with a pair of sparkling diamond and sapphire earrings, a matching pendant and the AELTC ribbon for the big event.
2023: Balmain
The Princess of Wales made her Wimbledon 2023 debut in a Princess Diana-inspired look, wearing a mint green Balmain blazer paired with a white pleated skirt as she took in a day-two match between Katie Boulter and Daria Saville.
Middleton’s 1980s-themed outfit brought to mind a Catherine Walker blazer dress her late mother-in-law wore to Trooping the Colour in 1988, with the current Princess of Wales’ blazer featuring the same wide white lapels.
Her pleated white skirt and matching Gianvito Rossi pumps also channeled Diana, with the late princess having frequently worn similar combos in the 1980s and ’90s.

2023: Self-Portrait
For her second Wimbledon appearance of the year, the Princess of Wales selected a Self-Portrait dress to take in the women’s singles finals.
She wore the piece — which featured a belted lime bouclé top with a jaunty collar and pleated skirt — with the same Cassandra Goad pearl cluster earrings she’s worn on a number of occasions over the years, adding one of her go-to Emmy London clutches in blush and Victoria Beckham sunglasses.
She stepped out on the court to present Marketa Vondrousova the championship trophy in a new pair of Gianvito Rossi slingbacks after the unseeded player won the top spot in tennis against Ons Jabeur.
2023: Roland Mouret
The princess chose yet another green outfit for the men’s singles finals between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, debuting a kelly green Roland Mouret sheath dress for the event.
The midi-length style included a fun ruffled accent on the shoulder, and she paired the colorful look with her frequently worn nude suede Gianvito Rossi heels, her Wimbledon ribbon and the same Emmy London clutch she wore for the women’s championship match.
She debuted two new pieces of jewelry, wearing a pair of green drop earrings by Milina London along with a gold Halcyon Days bangle.
Her proud husband, Prince William, and kids Princess Charlotte and Prince George looked on as the princess presented Spanish tennis star Alcaraz with the trophy, with 8-year-old Charlotte making her Wimbledon debut at the action-packed match.
2024: Safiyaa
She delighted fans by showing up in a purple Safiyaa dress with a twisted bodice on the final day of the 2024 Wimbledon championships, marking only her second public appearance of the year.
The Princess of Wales — who announced she was fighting cancer in March 2024 — received a standing ovation as she entered the royal box in her swishy-skirted violet midi and Camilla Elphick slingbacks.
