Broadway performances continued behind closed doors at 2024 Tony Awards after-parties on theater’s biggest night
Broadway’s biggest names hit the party circuit after the Tony Awards on Sunday — and winner Jonathan Groff wasn’t done in the spotlight, belting out a tune at one bash that raged into the wee hours.
Groff, who won for “Merrily We Roll Along,” jammed out with famed Bemelmans��Bar bar pianist Billy Stritch and singer Jim Caruso at NYC hotel the Carlyle. They played the song “Old Friend” from the hit Stephen Sondheim show.
We hear the entire room then joined in singing the chorus of “New York, New York.”
Groff was spotted celebrating with his co-star Daniel Radcliffe, who also won a Tony for the show.
“They looked like they were having so much fun together,” says a spy of the pair. “You can tell they are truly close friends.”
The party, thrown by VIP publicist Rick Miramontez and John Gore, also brought out “Cabaret” star Eddie Redmayne, “Mother Play” actor Jim Parsons, Ben Platt, Nicole Scherzinger, Leslie Odom Jr., Jeffrey Wright, Harvey Fierstein, Camille A. Brown, Ali Louis Bourzgui and Dylan Mulvaney.
Tony winner Sarah Paulson was spotted bumping her award for her show, “Appropriate,” against “Just For Us” writer and comic Alex Edelman’s award.
The ceremony’s host Ariana DeBose was lively despite having several dance numbers earlier in the evening. The star was hanging out with Julianne Hough at the club’s iconic piano, as standards from shows like “Cabaret” played.
Billy Eichner worked the room, Jesse Tyler Ferguson mingled, theater producer Jordan Roth looked fab in a floor-length black gown, and The Who rocker Peter Townshend made the rounds till the early morning.
Even later, guests headed to Midtown for Kelli O’Hara and Arian Moayed’s party at Pebble Bar.
Paulson was still out well past 2 a.m., along with Corey Stoll, Elle Fanning and Billy Porter.
Page Six reported last week that theater press had been shut out of the red carpet due to a lack of space at Lincoln Center, with many grousing about the development.
But we hear that, after our story ran, several theater journos were given access.
