Patrick Dempsey named People magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’
Patrick Dempsey has earned himself the new title of being People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” 2023.
The publication announced Tuesday night that Dempsey landed its coveted distinction and corresponding cover.
The 57-year-old star takes the crown from last year’s champ and “Captain America” actor, Chris Evans.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum told the outlet.
“It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
“And then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good,” he said, adding that he was “completely shocked” to learn of the honor.
The Maine native has been married to his wife, Jillian Dempsey, since 1999.
The pair share three kids together: daughter Talula, 21, and 16-year-old twin boys Sullivan and Darby.
The “Bridget Jones’s Baby” actor said he’s looking forward to the jokes his family will come up with now that he’s named the magazine’s “sexiest man alive.”
They’re “just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be,” he said of his family. “Which is good, they keep me young.”
Dempsey’s new title was revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday during a 20-question segment.
“I’m just happy they made a decision and it was me this year,” he told Kimmel, before joking, “Never give up on a dream.”

Dempsey said his family laughed when he told them about his coveted new title.
“They were like, ‘No, seriously, who is it?’ ‘No, it’s me.’ Reality came crashing in,” he added.
He said that the magazine keeps the winner’s identity top secret.
“You’re not allowed to talk about it at all,” he said. “You’re not allowed to mention it. Everybody signs these nondisclosures where you’re not allowed to say what they’re doing.”
Dempsey follows in the footsteps of prior superhero film stars like Evans, Paul Rudd, Ryan Reynolds, and Chris Hemsworth.
Other notable past sexy men include Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Adam Levine, Richard Gere, Channing Tatum, and David Beckham.
