Evan Spiegel, Miranda Kerr were anti-screen time for children — until the pandemic

CANNES — Evan Spiegel and Miranda Kerr were against allowing their children to have screen time — until the pandemic.

The Snapchat founder, who shares sons Myles, 3, and Hart, 4, as well as stepson Flynn, 11, with the model, told the Wall Street Journal’s Sam Schechner that the couple didn’t want to expose their children to smartphones until they realized the devices were the only way to keep Flynn connected to his friends while social distancing.

“The dam broke and we have not looked back,” Spiegel said at Journal House Tuesday morning during the Cannes Lions Festival, adding that Flynn lost his smartphone in Australia and they decided against buying him a new one.

However, when Flynn engages with his laptop, the tech tycoon makes sure his son uses his “critical thinking skills.”

“We encourage [Flynn] to question things because of course not everything on the internet is true,” Spiegel, 33, added.

Although fans may think Snapchat would be a staple on each of his children’s devices, Spiegel made it clear that “of course” Flynn, whom Kerr shares with ex-husband Orlando Bloom, is not on the platform.

“You can’t be on it younger than 13,” Spiegel explained. “It’s against the rules!”

Spiegel also shared that Myles “loves lions,” so the mogul sent his son an image of a lion using artificial intelligent. 

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel, 40, and Spiegel married in a 2017 ceremony at their $12 million mansion in Los Angeles.

The intimate but A-list reception featured performances from Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat.

Sources told Page Six at the time that the couple — who could have married anywhere in the world — wanted to exchange vows in front of just close family and friends in a private and intimate setting: their home.

The longtime couple welcomed their firstborn together, Hart, in May 2018 and Kerr gave birth to Myles in October 2019.
