Meghan Markle sends clear message to royal family with gold dress

She’s so golden.

Meghan Markle accepted the 2023 Women of Vision award at a glittering gala in New York City last night, and her equally shimmery dress marked a departure from her royal wardrobe that shows she’s not trying to “blend in” anymore.

Wearing a sleeveless Johanna Ortiz number with a subtle cutout at the stomach, the former “Suits” actress glowed as she accepted the award from feminist icon Gloria Steinem — and her dress might have contained a hidden message to the royal family.

While the Duchess of Sussex, 41, was known to almost exclusively wear neutrals like black, white and beige as not to “stand out” as a senior royal, she sported a bright metallic gold gown for last night’s awards show that looked more like something she would wear during her days as a Hollywood star.

“I rarely wore color,” Markle said in the third episode of Netflix’s “Harry & Meghan” docuseries, reflecting on her time as a senior royal.

The duchess — who married Prince Harry, 38, in 2018 — added that “there was thought in that,” explaining that she didn’t want to wear the same shade as another member of the family at events.

“I was like, ‘Well, what’s a color that they’ll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White?’” she continued. “I’m not trying to stand out here.”

She certainly stood out at last night’s awards, joining the Duke of Sussex along with her mother, Doria Ragland, for the elegant evening.

Along with her bold gold dress, she wore gold Tom Ford stilettos ($1,350), a Carolina Herrera clutch and a pair of J. Crew hoop earrings with chunky studs.

The event also marked the first joint public event for the Sussexes since Prince Harry attended King Charles III’s coronation, with Markle staying home in California with Princess Lilibet, 1, and Prince Archie, 4, though the couple did recently step out for a sushi dinner with Gwyneth Paltrow and other celebs.

With the coronation now over and rumors of a new blog venture on the horizon, we have a feeling we’ll see some more shimmering looks in the future.
