Sam Smith supports rumored boyfriend Christian Cowan at NYFW show
Sam Smith is a fashion star.
The “Unholy” singer sat front row at rumored boyfriend Christian Cowan’s runway show during New York Fashion Week on Tuesday, one month after the duo sparked dating rumors.
Smith, who is non-binary and uses “they/them” pronouns, continued their streak of fiery fashion statements in a red-hot jumpsuit accessorized with matching gloves and platform heels and layered beneath a sparkling silver coat — all designed by Cowan, of course.
Also in attendance at the British-born designer’s show was Lil Nas X — clad in one of the new collection’s showgirl-inspired feather headdresses — as well as Teyana Taylor, Bella Thorne and Orville Peck.
It appears Smith made the special trip to New York Fashion Week just for Cowan post-Brit Awards, where they made a splash on the red carpet in a mind-bending inflatable latex look.
The public display of support comes after Smith and Cowan were spotted cozying up together ahead of the former’s “SNL” performance in January. While it is unclear when they first met, the two were photographed together with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House in December for the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act.
They’ve also taken their relationship to creative heights of late, collaborating on a series of over-the-top looks — including corsets, nipple pasties and feathery headpieces — for Smith’s controversial “I’m Not Here to Make Friends” music video.
The “Stay With Me” singer has caused quite a stir during their new musical era, having also recently donned devil horns for their performance with Kim Petras at the 2023 Grammys earlier this month.
But they clearly don’t care what the haters say; “I get closer to who I am with each album,” Smith told The Sunday Times in a recent interview, adding that their new album, “Gloria,” was inspired by the “feminine spirit in me.”
“I’m happier in my own skin on Gloria. I feel liberated, released from pressures I felt when I was young … I now have the opposite of body dysmorphia. I look fabulous.”
