Sam Smith trolled for ‘attention-seeking’ latex look at 2023 Brit Awards

Sam Smith was trolled for wearing an inflatable latex outfit at the 2023 Brit Awards red carpet on Saturday.

The “Unholy” singer, 30, arrived at the annual music event in a couture ensemble by designer Harri that featured blown-up pants and shoulder pads.

Smith — who identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns — completed their monochromatic look by wearing black latex gloves and a pair of heeled boots.

The English crooner’s outfit began trending on Twitter, where users had a lot of opinions about the peculiar attire.

“Someone is desperate for attention…wow 😂😂😂🤣😂 #samsmith,” tweeted one critic, while another added, “The humiliation continues for Sam Smith – WTF is THAT?”

A third user wrote, “As if I couldn’t hate Sam Smith enough then [they] f–king wears this monstrosity #BRITs#Brits2023.”

“Is Sam Smith identifying as Missy Eliot now? #britawards#brits#TheBritAwards,” asked a fourth person, referencing the rapper’s infamous latex outfit in the music video for “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).”

“Honestly, Sam Smith is the most attention seeking person I’ve ever seen in my life. Genuinely, it’s getting boring now,” tweeted another troll.

Smith’s latest head-turning look comes a week after they hit the red carpet at the 2023 Grammys with Kim Petras in a bright red Valentino gown, matching gloves, a veiled top hat and a glittering cane.

Smith and Petras later took the stage that night to perform their hit single “Unholy,” but the duo was met with backlash for their “satanic” performance.

People also criticized Smith’s outfits in their “I’m Not Here to Make Friends” music video, but their fans had the Grammy winner’s back, saying, “Support fat queer people.”

Despite what critics have to say about Smith, the “I’m Not the Only One” singer has finally accepted their appearance after a lifelong struggle with body dysmorphia.

“I’m happier in my own skin on ‘Gloria.’ I feel liberated, released from pressures I felt when I was young,” they told the Sunday Times last month. “My mom says that, as I’ve got older, I’ve stopped caring what people think as much. She tends to be right.”
