Prince Harry blames tabloids for Meghan Markle’s miscarriage

Prince Harry claims that Meghan Markle’s 2020 miscarriage was caused by the press.

“I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the [Daily] Mail did,” he said in their Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan.” “I watched the whole thing.”

The Duke of Sussex was referring to the protracted legal case the couple had launched against The Daily Mail in 2019 for publishing a private letter she penned to her father, Thomas Markle.

The “Suits” alum revealed she suffered a miscarriage the first morning they woke up in their Santa Barbara home in July 2020 after quitting the royal family earlier that year.

“Now, do we absolutely know that the miscarriage was caused, created by that?” Harry said, “Of course we don’t, but bearing in mind the stress that that caused, the lack of sleep and the timing of the pregnancy, how many weeks in she was, I can say from what I saw, that miscarriage was caused by what they were trying to do to her.”

The couple’s lawyer Jenny Afia shared that Markle, 41, was consumed by the case.

“Meghan and I would be texting at 1 a.m. or 3 a.m. her time, she’d be awake, unable to sleep, thinking about this case, and the wider issues and the toll it was taking,” she said.

And Abigail Spencer, her “Suits” co-star, fought back tears as she remembered visiting the couple in their new Santa Barbara digs the previous day and immediately sensed something was wrong.

Spencer revealed that Markle confessed to not being able to sleep while showing her around their home.

“She was holding Archie and she just fell to the ground,” Spencer emotionally recalled.

Markle went public with her miscarriage writing about the devastating experience in a November 2020 essay for the New York Times revealing that it happened while changing son Archie’s diaper the previous summer.

“I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right,” she wrote. “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

While at hospital, Markle — who also shares daughter Lilibet with Harry — wrote that she held her husband’s hand and “kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears.”

“Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we’d heal,” she wrote.

“Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few.”
