Sharna Burgess admits she has ‘dark’ intrusive thoughts about her baby

Sharna Burgess admitted recently that she sometimes fears the worst when it comes to her child.

“Intrusive mom thoughts ….This is a real thing,” the “Dancing with the Stars” alum, 37, captioned a video on Instagram on Dec. 9 of her holding her baby while Cardi B’s viral “Oh my God, what is that?” soundbite played over it.

“Honestly I thought it was something wrong with my brain at first. These super dark thoughts of all the things that could go wrong. All the ways I or life could accidentally hurt my baby.”

Burgess then listed that some of the concerns she’s had include “falling down stairs holding him, sickness, [and] a car accident.”

The pro dancer shared she’s been having these intrusive thoughts for five months, and noted sleep deprivation, feeling “emotionally charged but also depleted” and in physical pain as some of the reasons for why she may have them.

“That new responsibility is filled with so much love, wonder and awe but nobody warns you about the equal amount of fear that now lives within you,” she continued.

“It’s the most excruciating love you’ve ever felt and its overwhelming, at least for me it was.”

Burgess said she has learned how to cope with this behavior, and shared some of the “tools” that have helped her achieve that, including deep cleansing breaths and physically swiping the thought from her head and imagining it’s being “destroyed.”

The Australia native concluded with an uplifting message to her fellow moms, “You’re doing great mama, remember that 🤍”

Many women in the comments section wrote that they could relate, including ABC News meteorologist Ginger Zee, who wrote, “I didn’t want anyone to carry the baby and walk down the stairs with Socks… for fear we would slip. Bare feet or rubber soled slippers ONLY. Fears progressed — and then I found meditation. Thank goodness.”

Burgess welcomed a son, Zane Walker, with boyfriend Brian Austin Green in June.

Although the now 5-month-old is the ballroom dancer’s first child, Green, 49, shares three kids with ex-wife Megan Fox, Noah, 10, Bodhi, 8, Journey, 6, and has an older son, Kassius, 20, from his previous relationship with actress Vanessa Marcil.
