“Euphoria” makeup artist Donni Davy has plenty of beauty tricks (and treats) up her sleeve this Halloween.
And if you’re planning a last-minute costume based on the HBO hit, never fear: Several of the show’s most iconic makeup moments are easy to do at home.
“The coolest thing about [Jules’] makeup is that you truly don’t have to be ‘good’ at makeup to recreate her looks,” Davy tells Page Six Style of the colorful shadow that’s become Hunter Schafer’s character’s signature — one of the many “Euphoria” beauty looks that makes for an instantly recognizable costume.
But while fans are picking from two seasons’ worth of iconic looks this Halloween, Davy – who also launched her makeup line, Half Magic, this year — is already dreaming up future favorites.
“On Cassie, I’d love to do burgundy diffused stained lips with bare, shimmery, wet-looking eyelids,” she says, noting that the plot of the show often influences the glam. “I also think she’d look amazing with a nose piercing, but these things would totally depend on Cassie’s storyline.”
While we eagerly await what’s in store for Season 3 — Davy says she’s “dying to do something with Jules’ eyebrows, whether that’s bleaching them or making them a different color or shape” — we asked her how to recreate some of the show’s most iconic looks so far.
So if the number of days left to find a costume has you saying, “Bitch, you better be joking,” keep reading to learn how to recreate some major “Euphoria” makeup moments at home this Halloween.
Maddy’s New Year’s Eve look (Season 2)
While starting the new year with a bang (on the door, that is) in Season 2, Maddy sported “ultimate power wings,” which Davy says were inspired by actress Alexa Demie herself.
“Alexa took on the role of makeup designer for all of her Season 2 looks,” she tells us. “She wanted to lean far away from her Season 1 looks, and keep color extremely minimal, which was totally in line with Maddy’s storyline in Season 2.”
Step 1: For a similar look with different products, “apply something nude and super shimmery all over your eyelids,” says Davy, who recommends Half Magic Chromaddiction Shimmer ($24) in A.S.M.R, or the brand’s Light Trap Duochrome Glow Powder ($20) in Enter the Glow if you prefer powder.
Step 2: Get ready to wing it with your favorite black eyeliner. “The key for this look is to take those wings straight OUT, rather than up,” says Davy, who recommends using the skinny edge of her Magic Flik Liquid Eyeliner ($20) for the tail and the thicker edge for the bold wing — plus the Wing Magician ($10) to ensure a straight line.
Step 3: “Part of nailing this look is the brown lip liner,” adds the Half Magic founder, who recommends her brand’s Sculptitude 2-in-1 Lip Liner ($14) in either Hot Potato or I’ll Pray For You, or a Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencil ($22) in Endless Cacao.
Cassie’s “Oklahoma” look (Season 2)
While Cassie may have spent hours primping before school, it just takes four steps to recreate her look for this unforgettable bathroom scene — a ‘60s-inspired style Davy says was “meant to give a Dolly Parton costume-y energy but make it delicate.”
“I wanted Cassie to look ethereal, but a little tiny bit deranged at the same time, like she was trying to embody a totally different aesthetic than her usual vibe,” Davy says, adding, “My goal with Cassie’s various looks was always to keep the looks flattering, with just a touch of ‘something is extremely off.’”
Step 1: “For Halloween I’d choose a blue [eyeshadow] that really pops and will last all night,” says Davy, who recommends Chromeaddiction Matte Eye Paint + Liner ($24) in “Sky Juice” for a long-wear liquid option, or her Eyeshadow Singles ($12) in Daydreamies paired with primer.
Step 2: Go for Cassie’s wide-eyed look with falsies placed along the lower lash line. “I also put some … on [Sydney Sweeney’s] upper lash line as well to give an exaggerated baby doll effect,” says Davy, who used House of Lashes X Patrick Ta lashes on set.
Step 3: Swipe on some blush and dot on freckles with a freckle pen or long-wear eyeliner pencil. “I kept these subtle [on] Sydney, because I didn’t want the look to feel costume-y, but it might be fun for Halloween to go a little heavier,” Davy explains.
Step 4: Pair a pink, peach or nude lipstick with lip liner “just a little darker than the lip color to add fullness to the lips.”
Rue’s glitter tears (Season 1)
What screams “Euphoria” more than Rue’s glitter tears? Like all the show’s looks, the sparkly signature style was “inspired by the emotions the characters are going through,” says Davy.
“For this scene I used water and gold craft glitter, because the tears had to actually be liquid and roll down her face,” she recalls. “When the camera started rolling, I would pour the glitter mixture on, and then jump out of frame as fast as I could.”
Step 1: “For glitter tear recreations, I suggest using glitter eyeliner and rhinestones,” says Davy, who recommends sketching the tear shape in black eyeliner first to “make them show up really well at night.” Sketch an asymmetrical tear shape with Half Magic Flik Liquid Eyeliner ($20) — but “don’t worry about your lines being perfect,” as you’ll cover them with sparkle soon.
Step 2: Cover the tear shape with Half Magic Glitterpill Eye Paint + Liner ($20) in Money Plz once it dries.
Step 3: Add extra sparkle with Face Gems ($12), making sure to use all three sizes, as “size variation here will make the tears reflect back all different sizes of light, which makes them extra dynamic and sparkly,” says Davy.
Step 4: “To get the Rue look, keep your skin and lips bare, and if you want a little more drama on the eyes, channel her Season 1 carnival look and line your waterline with a black gel eyeliner pencil, and finish with loads of mascara,” Davy adds. “Messy is good!”
Jules’ colorful eyeshadow (Season 1)
If it’s Jules you’re hoping to channel this Halloween, get colorful and creative with her striped eyeshadow look from Season 1.
“Jules is an artist, so many of her looks from both Seasons 1 and 2 feel painterly or like tiny drawings,” Davy says, calling the character’s makeup “all about having fun with the choice of and placement of color.”
Step 1: Apply the liquid eyeshadow of your choice. “Pick either your inner or outer corners and pack on the first color with a flat concealer brush,” says Davy. “The reason I use a flat concealer brush for this is because I want hard edges on my eyeshadow shape, rather than softly blended-out edges.”
Step 2: ”Pick another color and transition that first color into this new color,” says Davy, who recommends repeating this step “however many times with as many colors as you want.”
Step 4: Since no “Euphoria” beauty look is complete without some sparkle, top off the liquid eyeshadow with neon Face Gems ($12) “for more magic and Halloween visibility.”
Kat’s nun costume (Season 1)
The “Euphoria” women have scary good Halloween makeup themselves, including Kat’s nun costume based on Thana from the thriller film “Ms. 45″ — which Davy calls one of her “favorite looks from the show.”
Step 1: Create a “sharp black line out of eyeshadow that extends straight out from the lower lash line,” says Davy, who recommends using the Wing Magician ($10) for a “super crisp” edge.
Step 2: Use a “super pigmented” black eyeshadow and blend it “up and outward to create a super bold black smokey eye,” says Davy. “Don’t worry if it looks messy.”
Step 3: Blend red eyeshadow into the black with a clean eyeshadow brush, “moving out and upwards,” as Davy recommends. “The goal is for the black to turn into the red, so once you’ve blended the black into the red, you may want to get another clean eyeshadow brush to do the last bit of red.”
Step 4: Use the red eyeshadow to line your lower lash line and a black gel eyeliner pencil to line your waterlines.
Step 5: “When I heard Kat would be wearing a nun costume, I knew her makeup needed to have sparkly upside-down crosses hanging beneath her eyes,” Davy says. For something similar using different products, draw your own upside-down crosses with Magic Flik Liquid Eyeliner ($20), then add some sparkle with Glitterpill Eye Paint + Liner ($20) in Money Plz.
Step 6: To recreate the lip look, use a black gel eyeliner pencil as liner, then “fill in with a red long-wear liquid lipstick or liner,” adds Davy, who recommends Half Magic Sculptitude 2-in-1 Lip Liner ($14) in Ruby Slippers for “a cool-toned red liner that can be applied all over the lips,” or in Give ‘Em Hell if you prefer an orange/red hue.
