Behind Boris Johnson’s stay at Dominican Republic resort Casa de Campo

Before Boris Johnson rushed back to the UK for a supposed, sudden second bid as prime minister — we hear that the pol was staying in the lap of luxury at the luxe Casa de Campo Resort and Villas in the Dominican Republic.

With 7,000 acres, Casa de Campo is historically known as a favorite spot for celebs and socialites, including the late fashion icon Oscar de la Renta, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Bill Clinton, and many more.

Johnson cut his trip short, a source told Page Six, to hurry back to Britain on Saturday after Prime Minister Liz Truss had abruptly resigned as the nation’s shortest-serving leader in history at 44 days. But he wound up saying on Sunday he would not run.

Spies told Page Six that Johnson was at the Dominican Republic resort “in a privately-owned villa on property,” though they didn’t say who the owner was. A report said that a four-bedroom villa at the destination would cost over $2,800 per night over the weekend.

Our source added to Page Six that, “I believe that he initially had planned on staying longer,” but left earlier, “perhaps left due to situation in UK.”

The source said that the thatch-haired pol played the resort’s famed Teeth of the Dog golf course during his stay — and that he also got a golf lesson while he was there.

Johnson was seen flying back in economy with his family, and jumping into a van at London’s Gatwick Airport upon his return.

A Sky News reporter who spotted Johnson on the plane back wrote: “Mr. Johnson is sitting in economy, quite near the back of the plane, with his wife and children — one of his children climbing on top of him.” And, “He’s in a suit, his head forward, deep in thought, but moments before that one of his children was climbing on top of him — a family coming back from their holidays.”

The former PM has gotten some flack for his posh vacations since announcing his resignation in July. The Guardian reported this weekend that Johnson has been “enjoying a series of luxury holidays as the UK lurches through economic tumult and a deepening cost of living crisis.”
