Olivia Newton-John ‘wasn’t walking’ in final days, says Didi Conn
Olivia Newton-John’s “Grease” co-star Didi Conn is giving fans a glimpse into just how much the beloved actress’ cancer had taken a toll on her in the days leading up to her death.
The American actress, known for her role as Frenchy in the iconic musical film, said on “Good Morning America” Tuesday that Newton-John told her she “wasn’t walking anymore and that she had full-time care.”
“Her husband, John, and her daughter, Chloe, were there all the time and she told me that they were just so hopelessly devoted,” she added.
Conn, 71, also reminisced on when she and Newton-John first met on set back in the 1970s, revealing that the blond beauty was a bit nervous at first.
“She told me she had been in another movie and it didn’t go as well as she had hoped, so I just began improvising with her,” the “Grease 2” actress shared, adding that the “Hopelessly Devoted to You” singer said she would “always be grateful” for that moment.
Conn said she will always remember her friend as someone with a “big heart” who “cared so much for everybody.”
John Travolta – who played Newton-John’s love interest in “Grease” – also shared some kind words about the “I Love You, I Honestly Love You” singer.
“My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much,” the actor, 68, captioned a touching Instagram post on Monday.
“We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
Newton-John died at age 73 after a 30-year battle with breast cancer.
A statement on her official Facebook Page noted on Monday that Newton-John “passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
The statement concluded, “Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.”
