They got 99 problems, but soon unemployment won’t be one.
Newly minted rock & roll hall of famer Jay-Z’s company, Roc Nation, and criminal justice advocacy organization the Reform Alliance are hosting a job fair on Nov. 18 at Madison Square Garden.
The groups are hoping to help disadvantaged people, including single parents and the formerly incarcerated, get work at jobs based in New York, the event’s sponsors said.
“The Team Roc New York Job Fair is a real opportunity for socio-economic mobility for New Yorkers – those who want to work, yet have not had the exposure or connections to the right-fit jobs, or to the support services that can strengthen their prospects for
employment,” Team Roc managing director Dania Diaz said in a press release Wednesday.
Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez added, “My hope is this event will not only stimulate New York’s economy but pair the state’s best and brightest employees with the country’s leading organizations.”
Corporations such as Zara, Lowe’s, Madison Square Garden, Amazon, Foot Locker, Live Nation, VICE, and 40/40 Club are among those who will be interviewing candidates on-site.
Roc Nation and Reform Alliance will also be offering employment opportunities, the organizers said.
The goal is to help thousands of New Yorkers.
“It is also a chance for us to work together – public, private, nonprofit sectors – to address the state’s labor shortages in a meaningful way,” Diaz said.
Career-development services will also be offered at no cost to the public, including resume building, interview preparation and tips on how to dress to impress.
Motivational speakers and celebrity guests are also set to make an appearance at the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. It’s unclear if the “Empire State of Mind” rapper will be one of the celebrity guests.
The job fair is just the latest move for Jay-Z’s team’s growing humanitarian efforts.
In September, Page Six exclusively learned that the “Holy Grail” rapper, 51, was working to release a man serving 20 years in prison over weed charges.
Over the weekend, Jay-Z was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and reflected on his decades-long career in his acceptance speech.
He said, “Hopefully [I’m showing the] next generation that anything is possible.”
