Suzanne Somers, 74, on aging beautifully: ‘It takes a little bit of work’

With Suzanne Somers’ 75th birthday less than a month away, the star isn’t just accepting aging – she’s embracing it.

“Aging is amazing. Aging is something you should aspire to and look forward to and want,” the actress, 74, shared in her Park Magazine cover story.

But while the “Three’s Company” actress now swears by several secrets for aging gracefully, that wisdom took years – and several lifestyle changes – to come by.

Following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2000, Somers turned to healthy habits including prioritizing sleep, switching to an all-organic diet and cutting out chemicals in her food and beauty products.

“I have to say that since I embraced health, I have never enjoyed life more,” she told the magazine. “I like the way I look. I like the way I feel. I like my energy … I can tell you that aging can be so incredible if you know how to approach it. It takes a little bit of work.”

“It’s about health; about shifting your thinking and understanding what it is that’s making us sick and how we can combat it,” she continued.

In addition to embracing a diet with plenty of omega-3 oils, the star also takes estrogen daily, fish oil twice a day – she swears it doesn’t taste as bad as the version “our mothers made us take” – and applies progesterone at certain times of the month.

Somers’ secrets center on sleep, healthy eating and hormones – factors she says “are all connected” and involve listening to your body when it’s “telling you it needs some help.”

“We have to learn the language of our bodies. Itching, bitching, lack of sleep, sweating, bloating, forgetfulness, being dried up; that’s the body talking,” she said. “You can’t sleep unless you balance your hormones.”

“When you don’t have hormones, you don’t care about sex. I mean, you can do it, but you’d rather have a smoothie,” added Somers, who has often gotten candid about her own sex life with husband Alan Hamel, revealing that she injects him with testosterone once a week and has sex multiple times a day.

And while Page Six exclusively reported that Somers celebrated Hamel’s 85th birthday with a glam, gourmet dinner in July, it seems she might have something else in mind for her own big day.

The “Step By Step” actress – who posed in nothing but her birthday suit for her 73rd birthday – previously said she wanted to pose for Playboy to celebrate turning 75.
