Lorde shines in blooming gold breastplate on Vogue cover

With body jewelry this beautiful, who needs a shirt?

Lorde covers Vogue’s October 2021 issue in a stunning gold breastplate by Schiaparelli Haute Couture festooned with metal flowers.

Less of a top than an art piece, the sculpted corset is comprised of two strategically placed blossoms to cover the chest, along with waist-encircling skinny stems and delicate face-framing leaves.

If the high-fashion creation looks familiar, it’s likely because Bella Hadid made headlines in a similarly surrealist piece from the same collection at the Cannes Film Festival in July. The supermodel turned heads on the red carpet in a bare-chested black gown accessorized with a gold-dipped necklace shaped like a pair of human lungs.

“It was a work of art,” Hadid, 24, later told Vogue, adding that the jewelry “wasn’t as heavy as one would expect.”

Added the catwalker of her revealing outfit, “When I would look down, you could see everything. So it was very bizarre walking onto the carpet with a breeze in places you usually wouldn’t have a breeze.”

The “Solar Power” singer, 24, posed in a range of other metallic looks for her beachside cover shoot, including a plunging gold Dior Haute Couture gown, a bedazzled Dolce & Gabbana bodysuit and a slinky Balenciaga tank dress.

“I can register fashion as both beautiful and absurd,” Lorde said in the accompanying interview, recalling a “visceral moment” at the 2015 Met Gala: “[I was] thinking, A pharaoh is lying right there, and we’re in couture. But I kind of love it.”

The Grammy winner also spoke about her conscious choice to step back from the spotlight — and social media. “I’m a highly sensitive person. I’m not built for pop star life,” she admitted.

“To have a public-facing existence is something I find really intense and is something I’m not good at. That natural charisma is not what I have.”

Lorde may be camera shy, but she sure knows how to wear couture.
