Olivia Rodrigo wears Britney Spears’ dress in ‘Brutal’ music video

Talk about déjà vu.

Olivia Rodrigo dropped her new music video for “Brutal” on Monday, and it’s packed with the sort of Y2K-inspired styles we’ve come to expect from the teen phenom; think plaid miniskirts, graphic baby tees, low-rise jeans and newsboy caps.

But with one particular costume change, 18-year-old Rodrigo pays tribute to the pop princess who came before her, making like a ballerina in the same sparkling Roberto Cavalli dress once worn by Britney Spears.

As first pointed out by fashion writer Evan Ross Katz, the “Toxic” hitmaker, 39, donned the corseted mini at the 2003 American Music Awards; Rodrigo, meanwhile, put a punk spin on the piece with fishnets and a pale blue wig.

While the “Drivers License” singer has frequently named fellow songwriter Taylor Swift as her “idol,” she’s clearly a big fan of Spears as well, and recently spoke out in support of the superstar amid her conservatorship battle.

“The Britney stuff was just horrific, and I’ve been following it very closely. I think it’s just so awful. I think, as an industry, people are getting better at not taking advantage of and manipulating and bullying young women,” Rodrigo told GQ.

“But it’s still so apparent, and I witness that too. Not near at the level that Britney has, obviously. I think that’s an important paradigm that I hope that we’ll be able to break in the coming generations. I’ve definitely seen corporate dollars be prioritized over people’s mental health.”

It’s not the first time Rodrigo’s channeled Spears’ look; earlier this year, she and pal Iris Apatow twinned in “Dump Him” T-shirts identical to one made famous by the “Baby One More Time” singer in the early 2000s.
