Molly Ringwald mourns the death of her jazz musician father, Bob

Molly Ringwald’s father, jazz musician Bob Ringwald, died on Aug. 3. He was 80.

Molly, 53, announced the news on Instagram Saturday by sharing a handful of photos of her late dad though the years.

“It’s with a heavy heart that my family says goodbye to my father,” the “Sixteen Candles” star captioned the post. “I consider myself very lucky to have had [him] in my life as long as I did.”

She did not reveal his cause of death.

The actress also wrote Bob’s obituary for the Sacramento Bee, in which she shared several anecdotes about her father’s life, including that he had sent his last “email joke” just days before his death.

“Anyone who knew Bob also knew his mischievous streak, and his ever-present, slightly ribald sense of humor,” she wrote. “If you didn’t sufficiently beg to get off of his email joke list, you would have received one just a couple of days before he died.”

The “Riverdale” star shared several of her Sacramento-born father’s lifetime achievements, including that he was crowned “The Emperor of Jazz” by the Sacramento Jazz Festival in 2012 — an honor she said “both touched and embarrassed him.”

“Despite having been a performer for nearly his entire life, he was never comfortable having attention bestowed on him unless he was on stage with a piano,” she wrote. “Nevertheless, Bob drew attention wherever he went. His natural charisma, authenticity and sense of humor made people fall in love with him and want to be around him.”

Bob, who was blind, is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adele, and their three children: daughters Molly and Beth Ringwald Carnes and son Kelly Ringwald. His fourth child, Robert Ringwald Jr., died from leukemia at the age of 3.

Bob was also grandfather to four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
