‘Bachelor’ alum Bekah Martinez defends Coco Austin breastfeeding 5-year-old

Bekah Martinez says there are no limits to “breast is best.”

When the 26-year-old mother of two was asked how she felt about Coco Austin still breastfeeding her 5-year-old daughter occasionally, the former “Bachelor” alum said it was “awesome.”

“It’s not weird and I think it’s awesome she’s comfortable enough to share [her] journey in our disgustingly judgmental society that has totally backwards views of when it’s appropriate to wean,” Martinez, who advocates for breastfeeding on social media, responded during an Instagram Q&A on Sunday.

Martinez added a screengrab from breastfeeding support group La Leche League GB’s website, which claims that the natural duration of breastfeeding can last up until anywhere from 2.5 to 7 years old.

Martinez clearly sees Austin as a kindred spirit: She faced backlash in 2020 when she shared a photo of herself breastfeeding both of her children — daughter Ruthie, who was 18 months old at the time, and son Franklin, who was a newborn — in tandem. The photo has since been deleted.

Several followers commented at the time that Ruthie was “too big” or “too old” to still be breastfeeding, with one user claiming it would cause “psychological issues.”

Martinez later took to her Instagram story to defend her choice and go so far as to suggest that society has regressed when it comes to breastfeeding.

“There is NOTHING psychologically damaging about nursing through and even past the toddler years,” Martinez wrote. “We’ve got it sooooo backwards now as a society.”
