DaBaby apologizes again for homophobic rant after being dropped from festivals

DaBaby’s doubling down on his DaPology.

The rapper released another apology for the homophobic comments he made at the Rolling Loud festival in July after being dropped by Lollapalooza festival Monday — the third lineup he’s been axed from in the wake of the controversy.

“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I Made,” the rapper wrote in a lengthy statement to Instagram on Monday. “Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”

The “Suge” artist, 29, called the public outcry around his words “challenging” and thanked those “who came to me with kindness.”

“As a man who has had to make him own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me — knowing what I needed was education on these topics and guidance — has been challenging,” he wrote.

“I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.”

DaBaby was supposed to perform as a closing act at the Lalapalooza music festival in Chicago but was axed amid the Rolling Loud fracas.

“Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love,” the organizers wrote in their statement Monday. “With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight.”

The rapper, né Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, was also dropped on Monday from the lineup of New York’s Governor’s Ball next month and November’s Day N Vegas festival.

DaBaby's Monday statement on the Rolling Loud controversy.
He apologized in a lengthy statement posted to his social media. Instagram

While performing at Rolling Loud in Miami, Kirk had said, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up… Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d–k in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”

He initially stood by his statement, saying on Instagram Live, “I wasn’t going on a rant. That’s called a call to action. That’s what that’s called, cause I’m a live performer. I’m the best live performer.”

But after receiving much backlash from fans — along with celebrities including Dua Lipa, Elton John, and Madonna — DaBaby shared that he regretted his words.

“Anybody who done ever been effected [sic] by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on [sic] offending anybody. So my apologies,” he tweeted last week. “But the LGBT community… I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.”
