Harvey Weinstein to be shipped to LA to face sex crime charges, judge rules

Harvey Weinstein will be extradited from an upstate New York prison to California in the coming weeks to face sex assault charges in Los Angeles, a judge ruled Tuesday.

The Erie County judge ordered the sexual predator — who has been locked up at Wende Correctional Facility since his conviction in New York last year — to be shipped off to LA by early July.

The disgraced filmmaker was indicted in April by a jury in the Golden State on 11 counts of sexual assault.

Weinstein’s attorney, Norman Effman, argued at a Tuesday hearing that Weinstein needed medical care and was being housed in Wende’s medical facility.

Effman said he would not get the same treatment at an LA County jail — a claim that prosecutors disputed.

Effman requested the judge delay his extradition for 10 days, but that was also shot down by the jurist.

Weinstein appeared in the remote hearing through a Zoom feed at Wende. He was seated in front of a desk and wore a maroon prison-issued shirt and a white mask.

At the end of the hearing, he put his face is his hands while leaning on the desk — before grabbing at his walker that was placed next to him.

In a statement, Weinstein spokesperson Juda Engelmayer said they were disappointed with the decision.

“We are disappointed in this decision today. Just now, Mr. Weinstein’s attorney filed a writ of Habeas Corpus in the LA County Superior Court. We are asking the court to hold off the extradition of Mr. Weinstein to Los Angeles until he can receive his needed  medical care here in New York,” he said in an email.
