David Letterman making guest appearance on Dave Chappelle’s podcast

Dave Chappelle will have a surprise guest on his podcast, June 8, we exclusively hear — David Letterman.

The former CBS and NBC late-night host traveled to Yellow Springs, Ohio, last July to hang with Chappelle — and was interviewed on his “The Midnight Miracle” podcast for two upcoming “Dave meets Dave” episodes, sources tell us.

Letterman also appeared onstage with Chappelle at one of his outdoor Wirrig Pavilion comedy shows, and Chappelle was a guest on Letterman’s Netflix show, “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” which filmed in the town.

The comedians’ bond goes back years. In 2014, Chappelle appeared on “Late Show With David Letterman” as his first late-night appearance in more than six years at the time — after keeping a low profile since abruptly exiting “Chappelle’s Show” in 2005.

Chappelle launched his “The Midnight Miracle” podcast last month. It was recorded during the comic’s 2020 “Summer Camp” in Ohio with co-hosts Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey in a venue dubbed “The Shack” — a garage turned into a clubhouse.

Chappelle’s team culled down over 100 hours to edit the podcast, featuring guests including Letterman, Chris Rock, Jon Hamm and Questlove.

Chappelle has been dropping hints about who the guests will be, with posters created for each episode. But Letterman has just been mysteriously referred to as “Dave.”

When the stars were in Yellow Springs together last year, a local photographer captured a shot of Chappelle and Letterman on a bench in front of a bookstore having coffee and joking around. He captioned the pic, “I was able to capture this random occasion this afternoon. Just two friends having a coffee and a chat (thank you Dave Chappelle, what you are doing is historic and a bright light in this crazy world).”

An Ohio outlet at the time pointed out that, “The pair were also scheduled to appear at the Netflix Is A Joke Fest, which was postponed indefinitely due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.”

Page Six recently reported that Chappelle is again putting on his outdoor comedy shows in Ohio this month.
