Mike Sorrentino praises Alcoholics Anonymous ahead of son’s birth

“Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is giving Alcoholics Anonymous a special shoutout for helping him turn his life around ahead of his first child’s birth.

The recovering addict — who celebrated 5 years sober in January — held up a copy of Bill Wilson’s “Alcoholics Anonymous: The Big Book,” and said on Instagram Thursday it “saves the lives of countless individuals each year.”

He also added that Alcoholics Anonymous’ 12-step program “can be related to any addiction or substance” and is a program of “fellowship, and changing perspective and perception.”

“I went to a meeting every day, I did treatment for close to a year, I got a sponsor, and I started working the steps,” Mike, who has been candid about his past prescription drug abuse, said. “These suggestions put me on the path to recovery and helped make the man that stands before you with 5 years clean and sober.”

The MTV star, 38, shared he wanted to advocate for AA because he wants fellow addicts to feel comfortable opening up about their struggles.

“Now more than ever, as I am about to bring a little man into this world, I want to help create a world where people are not ashamed to get they [sic] help they need,” he said.

Fans praised Mike for his advocacy, writing, “And that is why you went from a situation to an inspiration! All love Mike.”

Another wrote, “Thank you for this important message and for helping to end the stigma associated with any addiction or mental illness.”

In November, Mike and his wife, Lauren Sorrentino, announced they are expecting a baby, almost a year after the pair suffered a miscarriage.

The couple then shared in December that they are having a boy.

Lauren is due in May 2021.
