Some in the upper-crust crowd expect New York society to shun Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner in the Democratic stronghold if they choose to live there again after their controversy-filled stint in Washington, DC.
But after Page Six reported that the couple are building a house on Miami’s Indian Creek, the Southern city’s chic set are split on whether the couple will be, as Will Smith sang, welcome to Miami.
“There’s a big Israeli circle that loves what they have done for Israel,” says a source. But, they noted, there are some liberal New Yorkers who feel that “you go to Miami when you are disgraced to get a second shot.”
They gave Purdue Pharma heir Joss Sackler’s attempt at a comeback there after the opioid scandal as an example, and called Javanka’s plans to build a post-political-scandal life there “Peak Miami.”
But another insider tells us the Southern city is much more politically diverse than New York. “I don’t think they will be shunned. Miami is a melting pot of everyone,” they said. “I don’t think people will care in the way they care in New York or LA.”
Page Six reported this week that news of their arrival sent rich parents into a tailspin trying to figure out what school they’ll send their three kids to.
After we published that article, we’re told one parent was heard saying, “They better not go to Lehrman. I will flip them off when they drive by.” But another tells us, “I don’t think people at the schools would care beyond just having more problems with pickup because of Secret Service.”
Meanwhile, we’re told that along with options like Ransom Everglades, Miami Country Day and Cushman, there has been buzz that they could be sent to Scheck Hillel, a private Jewish school, whose website states it teaches “Jewish identity, values and a commitment to the State of Israel,” as well as “co-curricular experiences guided by Orthodox teachings.” Another strong contender would be Posnack, which also offers a Jewish curriculum.
