Imprisoned former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has one less lawsuit pending against him alleging sexual assault.
A woman who filed a suit against him in August anonymously as Jane Doe has withdrawn her claim, according to court documents filed this week in New York federal court.
A judge recently ruled that the woman needed to identify herself using her real name to go forward with the case. Weinstein’s lawyers then urged the judge to set a deadline for her to move ahead, or drop it, and the court said that the woman had to do so by Nov. 16. The plaintiff then voluntarily requested that the case be dismissed.
The woman alleged under the pseudonym that Weinstein groped her at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, and also lured her into sex acts in Toronto and LA, which his side denied.
But Weinstein is still facing numerous other legal claims, even as he is currently serving a 23-year sentence for raping an aspiring actress and sexually abusing a production assistant. His lawyers recently filed papers in New York Supreme Court denying that he sexually assaulted a former model, Kaja Sokola, when she was only 16. And he is also facing rape charges in LA. (His rep has said that Weinstein, “has always maintained that every one of his physical encounters throughout his entire life have been consensual.”)
Meantime his busy attorneys, Imran H. Ansari and Arthur Aidala of Aidala Bertuna & Kamins, are also working on his appeal in his conviction.
Weinstein has reportedly fallen ill at an upstate prison, but tested negative for COVID-19 on Thursday.
