Lily James’ string of no-shows dovetails with critical drubbing of her film

Lily James has missed a number of promotional appearances for her new Netflix film “Rebecca,” lately — but perhaps it’s all for the best: The remake of a Hitchcock classic is being largely savaged by critics.

Images recently surfaced of James seemingly smooching her married co-star of a future project, Dominic West. She then canceled numerous interviews promoting her current film with Armie Hammer. (James finally appeared on “The Tonight Show” this week, and host Jimmy Fallon didn’t bother to ask her questions about the West brouhaha, instead sticking to issues like ghosts and the possibility of another “Mama Mia!” sequel.)

Critics are drubbing “Rebecca” as a “blandly glossy melodrama” (Hollywood Reporter), “sometimes dumb, sometimes dull” (Time), and an “unfortunate waste of time” (Vulture). The Post’s review added, “For now, James’ most gripping story about a spurned wife can be found, not on Netflix, but on Page Six.”

Meanwhile, West, who has said alongside his wife that their marriage is still strong, is in talks to join the cast of another Netflix project — hit series “The Crown” — as Prince Charles.

He and James are currently filming the Amazon miniseries “The Pursuit of Love,” based on the 1945 Nancy Mitford novel.
