Kate Middleton channels Princess Diana in red coat

Kate Middleton’s latest look is a royal classic.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 38, stepped out in London with Prince William on Tuesday for the launch of the “Hold Still” photography project, clad in a long red coat from Alexander McQueen, one of her longtime favorite fashion houses.

With its double-breasted, longline silhouette and contrasting black buttons, her scarlet outerwear looked remarkably similar to a Catherine Walker coat her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, wore in Birmingham back in 1984.

Like Diana, the duchess accessorized with classic black pumps — hers are Gianvito Rossi “Piper” heels ($695) — and a ladylike black purse, Grace Han’s “Love Letter” bag ($2,062).

She also wore her favorite floral face mask, an Amaia design that retails for under $20.

A passion project of the Duchess of Cambridge’s, “Hold Still” features snapshots that capture the state of the UK amid the coronavirus pandemic. Middleton announced the project in May, and helped judge the finalists.

It’s hardly the first time the duchess has matched Princess Diana. She’s made a habit of selecting outfits that nod to Diana’s iconic style after giving birth to her children and often wears jewelry and tiaras beloved by the late Princess of Wales — along with her sapphire engagement ring.
