Maurizio Cattelan’s duct-taped banana art to hang in the Guggenheim

From the grocery store to the Guggenheim.

Maurizio Cattelan’s famed $120,000 banana-and-duct-tape artwork, “Comedian” —which went viral when it showed at Art Basel Miami in December — will hang on the hallowed walls of the NYC museum after being donated anonymously.

It comes with a certificate of authenticity and an instruction manual so that owners can duct tape their own bodega-bought fruit.

The sculpture caused so much of a stir at Art Basel that it had to be taken down because crowds grew dangerously large, and a performance artist ate the piece. But not before three versions of the perishable work were sold.
