Daniel Dae Kim tests positive for coronavirus

Actor Daniel Dae Kim revealed Thursday he has tested positive for coronavirus.

Taking to Instagram, the former “Lost” star posted a 10-minute video from his home in Hawaii, where he has resided since last Sunday.

“Hi everyone- yesterday I was diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus,” Kim captioned the video. “Looks like I’ll be ok, but I wanted share my journey with you in the hopes that you find it informative or helpful. Hope you all stay safe, calm, and above all, healthy.”

Kim, 51, also explained he had been in New York for the past several weeks shooting a TV series, which has since halted production. He said he was asymptomatic at first, but while flying back to Hawaii, he developed a scratchy throat.

“When I landed, I called my family doctor in Hawaii, and he told me to monitor my symptoms,” he said. “To be safe, when I got home, I quarantined myself in a room in the house and tried to rest on my own. But later that night, I felt tightness in my chest, body aches, and my temperature started to rise. He then told me to get tested.”

Coronavirus symptoms can develop between two to 14 days after exposure, according to the CDC, and include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

“I self-isolated the entire time, and even though I was with my family, I was in an entirely separate part of the house,” he said, noting he never went to a hospital.

Kim also stressed the severity of the situation to his followers.

“Even though I’m smiling and upbeat right now, for several days, I was in bed,” he said. “So for all those out there, especially teenagers and millennials who think this is not serious, please know that it is.”

He continued, “If you treat this without care, you are potentially endangering the lives of millions of people, including your loved ones. So for the sake of everyone else, please follow the guidelines. Socially distance, self-isolate, stop touching your face, and of course, wash your hands.”

Kim is the latest celebrity to confirm he tested positive for coronavirus, including Idris Elba, Tom Hanks, and wife Rita Wilson.
