Harvey Weinstein was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center as a “precautionary measure” on Monday evening shortly after his rape conviction in Manhattan criminal court, his rep said.
The disgraced producer was being taken from Manhattan Supreme Court to Rikers Island in an ambulance when he suffered high blood pressure, said his rep, Juda Engelmayer.
A medic in the ambulance made the call to redirect to the hospital, Engelmayer added.
Although Weinstein, 67, does suffer from ailments including diabetes and a bad back, a source said he was “faking it a little bit.”
His attorney Donna Rotunno said in an appearance on Fox News that he was also being checked out for heart palpitations, adding: “He’s OK.”
Weinstein is being held in the hospital’s prison ward. He is not handcuffed to his bed, but is kept under close watch by corrections officers, sources said.
Before his hospital visit, a Manhattan jury had just returned two guilty verdicts — one for rape and the other for criminal sex act — against the once-powerful Hollywood mogul during Day 5 of deliberations in the high-profile case.
He is expected to cool his heels in a Manhattan jail until his sentencing March 11.
Weinstein’s lawyers have said he will immediately appeal the verdict. He faces up to 29 years in prison.
