Dozens of Harvey Weinstein accusers — including actresses Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan — on Wednesday slammed the movie mogul for committing “monstrous crimes” and praised the “courageous” women who plan to testify against him.
As opening arguments in the disgraced filmmaker’s Manhattan sex abuse trial got underway, a total of 27 women released the joint statement saying it’s time for Weinstein to face the music, according to Deadline.com
“We stand in solidarity with Annabella Sciorra, Mimi Haleyi, Dawn Dunning and all of the women who will courageously testify against Harvey Weinstein in court,” the so-called “27 Silence Breakers” said.
“For decades, Weinstein wielded his power to mentally, physically and professionally abuse and silence women with impunity,” it declares. “Starting today, he will finally be forced to face his accusers and reckon with the consequences of his monstrous crimes.”
“Whether we are in the court room or supporting our fellow Silence Breakers from around the world, we are all in awe of their selflessness and bravery. We will continue to support them by speaking out and telling our stories until this serial predator is brought to justice.”
The group includes actresses Mira Sorvino, Larissa Gomes and Rosanna Arquette along with dozens of other outspoken alleged victims such as Caitlin Dulany, Dominique Huett and Erika Rosenbaum.
Prosecutors say Weinstein, 67, wielded his power as Hollywood’s top producer to become one of its most prolific sexual predators.
He faces up to life in prison for allegedly sexually assaulting three women.
