Joaquin Phoenix’s meatless Golden Globes met with mixed reviews

While “Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association savored their success in putting together the ceremony’s first-ever vegan dinner, others were left wanting. Not only was the seated dinner meat-free, so were the snacks at the bar during the show — the only place attendees could find fare. But to the relief of some stars, the after-parties around the Beverly Hilton weren’t sticking with the fleshless theme.

Page Six spotted Kate Bosworth and husband Michael Polish jumping on some genuine burgers at the InStyle/Warner Brothers party. We overheard the actress somewhat longingly say words to the effect of, “Is that real meat? Is that an Impossible burger?” Polish promised it was the real deal.

That wasn’t the only Phoenix-related bait-and-switch: About 20 minutes after  won a Golden Globe, an unidentified member of his camp came tearing through the lobby of the Beverly Hilton saying, “Where’s Joaquin? Nobody’s seen him!”

When a colleague suggested he was getting pictures taken, the frantic staffer said they’d looked there, but he wasn’t in the photo area. It seems Phoenix was accidentally funneled into the press room, where he gave a press conference he wasn’t expecting to give. The LA Times reported that the star said in the press conference: “I didn’t know that I was coming up here just now. They … tricked me.”
