Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau announce breakup — but were they ever really together?

Clout-chasing YouTubers Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau — whose relationship and quickie marriage raised eyebrows from the start — say they’re dunzo.

“For right now we both are taking a break to focus on our own very crazy lives,” Mongeau, 21, wrote on Instagram on Friday. “I’ll never know what the future holds and I will always love Jake and everything we did.” She added, “I’m grateful to know throughout this I’ve made a best friend for life & found someone to do life with when no one understood me.”

The controversial stars staged a huge wedding ceremony in Las Vegas in July. Despite initially insisting that the wedding was a real matrimony between two people in love, they later revealed that the union was never made legal and said they were going to have an open relationship.

Mongeau later hinted at a relationship with Noah Cyrus, though Cyrus denied any romantic connections. Paul, meanwhile, has been spotted hanging out with exes Alissa Violet and Erika Costell, but it’s unclear if their lunch dates have been more than platonic.

“I wouldn’t change anything that happened … we’re best friends and right now it’s best for us to focus on our lives & see what the future holds,” Paul, 22, wrote in his own breakup announcement on Instagram on Friday. “This is bitter sweet but it’s what’s best for us right now,” he said.

Mongeau and Paul — who are both known for their elaborate stunts — started their whirlwind “romance” in April 2019, shortly after Coachella, and quickly announced that they would marry, despite many detractors calling their relationship fake — including Jake’s older brother, Logan Paul.

Less than one week before officially announcing their breakup, Mongeau opened up in an intimate forty-minute video about the “unhealthy” dynamic and alluded to an imminent split.

“It’s crazy that I’ll look at 2019 as the best career year of my life … but mentally I just feel the lowest I’ve ever felt,” she said in the video. “I think I just put so much into Jake that I lost myself.”
