R. Kelly’s ex-wife wants nothing to do with ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ follow-up

While Drea Kelly — ex-wife of disgraced R&B star R. Kelly — was a willing participant in part one of Lifetime’s “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary, she’s denying any affiliation with its follow-up, calling a new trailer for the second doc misleading.

Drea, 45, believes Lifetime purposefully included a clip from her segment in the first documentary in order to promote the second, which she now wants to distance herself from, according to TMZ. The mother of three reportedly had many grievances with the network regarding the initial doc, saying executives ignored her requests by reaching out to her children and family members about part two. She also feels Lifetime failed to properly care and provide support for the victims who have already come forward.

“She has no involvement, did not approve any footage or stills of her likeness and is not actively promoting, nor consulting the follow-up series,” reads a statement from Drea’s rep.

Kelly accuser Lisa Van Allen is also distancing herself from the second doc, telling TMZ she was disappointed in how the network handled the subject matter.

“Surviving R.Kelly: The Reckoning” will examine the fall of Kelly’s career following the first doc’s premiere last January.
