Michelle and Barack Obama cried dropping off Sasha at college

Michelle Obama says she and Barack Obama got emotional while dropping off their younger daughter, Sasha, at college earlier this year.

“We were really good about it,” she told Jenna Bush Hager in a new “Today” show interview. “We didn’t want to embarrass her because, you know, she had roommates.”

The former first lady said it was the “final goodbye” that made the tears come out.

“Sasha drove off on her own and said that last goodbye, that’s when we were, like [crying noises],” she said.

It was revealed in August that the 18-year-old was set to attend the University of Michigan. Her older sister, Malia, 21, began attending Harvard in 2017.

“I’m excited for my girls to grow up and become independent, but you feel a little melancholy that they will never be the little ones that sit on your lap and listen to your every word and look at you adoringly,” Michelle, 55, said. “Those days are over.”
