Chris Evans’ ‘Knives Out’ sweater has social media hot and bothered

Rian Johnson’s new big-screen whodunit “Knives Out” boasts a cast positively packed with A-listers, from Jamie Lee Curtis to Daniel Craig to Toni Collette.

But the film’s real star is a sweater — a particular cream-colored Aran cable knit Chris Evans‘ character Ransom wears onscreen, to be precise, which has dominated social media discussion of the movie since long before it hit theaters last Wednesday.

The only thing I will say about ‘Knives Out’ is that, upon seeing Chris Evans in a sweater, the girl next to me gasped and said very softly and tenderly, ‘Sweater,'” Decider’s Anna Menta tweeted after an early screening.

Added TV writer Ira Madison III: “I just ordered Chris Evans’ sweater from ‘Knives Out’ and I can’t wait to f—k it.”

Writer R. Eric Thomas similarly couldn’t get enough of the actor’s knitwear, tweeting, “Very grateful to have finally seen myself represented on screen this weekend in the form of Chris Evans’ sweater which, like me, was ‘artfully distressed’ and ‘distracting’ and ‘clinging to Chris Evans for dear life.'”

“Knives Out” costume designer Jenny Eagan addressed the thirsty takes in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m not sure if it’s the sweater or who’s wearing the sweater,” she joked. “That might be part of it, too. He looks pretty great.”

Eagan added that she selected the sweater “during a fitting so rushed that she doesn’t know the brand,” but that hasn’t stopped fans from rushing to purchase similar styles — including a near-identical number from Aran Sweater Market ($84.95), which is currently sold out in almost every size.

For his part, Evans has refused to take any credit for the response to his costume, telling Extra TV, “Oh yeah, well, you know. It’s hard to look bad in a cable-knit sweater.”
