Trailer for Ben Affleck’s latest film finally released

A new trailer dropped Thursday morning for Ben Affleck‘s latest film, “The Way Back” — a lower-budgeted, powerful drama in which the star plays an alcoholic former basketball phenom who gets a chance to coach at his alma mater.

The trailer shows Affleck, who’s openly struggled with his own addiction issues, working as a construction worker guzzling beer on the job and being told at a local bar that the coach at his former high school had a heart attack and the gig is open. “Is the team any good?” Affleck’s character asks, only to be told that the last time the school’s squad made the playoffs was “the last time you were playing.” The trailer also shows Affleck’s coach character hung over, being helped to walk, crashing a car, getting in a physical altercation, and saying, “I spent a lot of time hurting myself, made a lot of bad decisions, I have a lot of regrets.”

The upcoming film was directed by Gavin O’Connor, who previously directed Affleck in “The Accountant.” Warner Bros. — which has been behind past Affleck films including “Argo,” “The Accountant” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” — in August moved the release date for “The Way Back” from October to March.

The film’s described as a story that “touches the heart and shows the power of redemption and the human spirit to rise.”

Affleck off-screen said after a sobriety slip late last month around Halloween, “It’s a slip but I’m not going to let it derail me.”
