Keanu Reeves’ girlfriend Alexandra Grant: What you need to know about the visual artist

Keanu Reeves made waves by holding hands with girlfriend Alexandra Grant at the LACMA Art + Film Gala over the weekend.

The “John Wick” star is usually very private about his romantic relationships and had not been linked to a woman in over a decade.

From 2002 to 2006, he was rumored to have dated British actress Claire Forlani off-and-on, but the pair never actually confirmed they were together.

Thirteen years later, Reeves, 55, made his debut with Grant, 46, on Saturday, but some on social media mistook her for Dame Helen Mirren. The mix up left people wanting to know more about the silver-haired woman who captured Reeves’ heart.

Here is everything we know about Grant and her and Reeves’ budding romance.

  1. 1. She is a visual artist

    In an interview with LA Weekly, Grant shared her love of the arts began when she was a child. She said her work “explores my passion for literature and poetry, giving shape to written words based on formal elements such as repetition, rhythm, and alliteration.”

    According to Grant’s LinkedIn, she has a bachelor of arts in history and art from Swarthmore College, which she attended from 1990 to 1995. She also got her master of fine arts degree from the California College of Arts from 1997 to 2000. She told LA Weekly her grad school program “allowed me to pursue my own curiosity and was the place where I learned to trust my instincts about my work.”

    Grant currently owns her own art studio in Los Angeles.

  2. 2. She is multilingual. She speaks English, Spanish and French

    Grant was born on April 3, 1973 in Ohio, but moved around a lot with her mother. The artist split time between Mexico City, Mexico and Paris as a child, where she picked up Spanish and French. However, she told LA Weekly that Los Angeles has felt most like home because of the “diversity of people, idioms, foods, and plants.”

  3. 3. She voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election

    Grant showed her support for Hillary Clinton on social media leading up to the 2016 election. On Nov. 6, 2016, the artist shared a picture of herself wearing a “The Future Is Female” T-shirt and Clinton campaign sticker.

    She also shared a cartoon of a young girl with the phrase “I may be your leader some day.” She captioned the picture “And I hope it’s today! This postcard was published 100 years ago by the National American Women’s Suffrage Association – in 1916!”

    In January 2017, Grant walked the Women’s March, which was a protest against Donald Trump held one day after his inauguration.

  4. 4. She published two books with Reeves

    In 2011, Grant and Reeves joined forces to release “Ode to Happiness,” characterized as a “grownup’s picture book” on Amazon. The drawings and paintings were by Grant and Reeves did the text. They later released their second book, “Shadows,” in 2016. A year later, the pair co-founded publishing company X Artists’ Books.

  5. 5. She and Reeves didn't start dating until earlier this year

    Grant and Reeves have been longtime friends and business partners, but a source told People the pair did not become romantic until 2019. “[They] started dating earlier this year, but have wanted to keep it quiet,” the unnamed source said. “Keanu wants to openly share his life with her. He is extremely happy and grateful to have Alex in his life.”

    Although Saturday’s gala took their relationship rumors to the next level, the couple were actually first photographed holding hands in June at the Saint Laurent fashion show in Malibu.

  6. 6. She and Reeves may have spent Thanksgiving together six years ago

    We know Grant and Reeves have known each other since at least 2011 — when they released their first book together, so it’s quite possible that Grant was the woman Reeves was spotted dining with on Thanksgiving six years ago.

    In 2013, a source told Page Six the actor was seen having an intimate dinner with “an older woman who was definitely just a friend,” adding that the pair “enjoyed each other’s company catching up.” Grant is nine years younger than Reeves, but perhaps her signature silver locks threw off the spy.
