Billy Porter strikes a pose in 130K crystals at 2019 Emmys
Billy Porter never fails to bring his A-game to the red carpet.
The 50-year-old “Pose” actor attended the 2019 Emmys on Sunday night in a glittering disco-ready suit from Michael Kors Couture — which, the designer told The Hollywood Reporter, “took over 170 hours to hand embroider and the pinstripes were created using 51,510 mini crystals for the jacket and 79,200 for the pants.”
The star paired his suit with a dramatic Stephen Jones hat — “inspired by the lead dancer from ‘My Fair Lady'” — along with a Judith Leiber crystal-covered crescent moon clutch and Rick Owens peep-toe platform boots.
He finished things off with Oscar Heyman jewelery, including a $35,000 gardenia ring from the ’20s and $20,000 checkerboard diamond cufflinks.
“We went to the Michael Kors show last year, and he was doing a Studio 54 theme and we loved that,” Porter told THR. “So we went to him and asked him if he would collaborate with us for the Emmys, because I want to do a little ‘70s disco throwback moment! It’s a custom couture piece by Michael Kors, inspired by his 2020 resort collection. It is very edgy, very on the pulse. We’re excited. It is a classic silhouette yet heightened.”
Porter is nominated tonight for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
