Charlie Sheen not seeking custody of twins to prevent Brooke Mueller ‘tailspin’

Charlie Sheen is unlikely to seek sole custody of his 10-year-old twin boys with Brooke Mueller despite her worrying spiral into a drug-induced meltdown, says a source.

Mueller has been on a tear the past couple of weeks, with Page Six reporting that she showed up at a stranger’s Hamptons home with suitcases filled with drugs, and on another occasion was caught trying to score “black tar” heroin.

Even so, we’re told, “Charlie is not ready to seek sole custody of his kids with Brooke.” Added the source, “He’s worried it will send her into a worse tailspin. And if he would seek sole custody, there would be a replay of all of his deeds over the years.”

Sheen has also had highly publicized substance-abuse issues in the past, but announced in January he was one year sober.

The source added, “Charlie is very upset over the situation. Basically, he feels she is using the child-support money [he pays her] to get high.”

The former couple has two children together, Bobby and Max. Sheen and Mueller were married in 2008 and filed for divorce in 2010 after he was arrested for assaulting her in Aspen, Colo., on Christmas Day 2009.

According to reports, Mueller has physical custody of the boys. Sheen pays her $55,000 a month in child support, although he reportedly recently filed to reduce that amount, claiming he is now getting less work in Hollywood.

It is believed that while Mueller is traveling — or in rehab — their twin sons are cared for by Mueller’s mother at their home in Beverly Hills. The source tells us that any agreement Sheen would make regarding the kids would also have to go through her.

Sheen told the Blast, “Between myself and the boys’ two amazing sets of grandparents, we continue to seamlessly love, shelter and protect Bob and Max from the haphazard choices and unsightly behavior their mom refuses to extinguish once and for all.” Mueller’s currently in a treatment facility.
